Pistons - meet valves, valves - meet pistons, work it out for yourself.

If your cambelt has lost teeth it'll grenade your engine.

lets say the car was stopped the engine was off and you take the belt off there would be no damage unless you tried to start the car thats when the piston goes up and kisses the valve that is open and the damage is done

this only happens on enterfearance engines loke hondas dodge neons and some others some cars arnt interfearance motors most toyotas subaru volkswagan and others as well as some hondas it all depends on where the cam stops

what kind of car do you have

Most modern cars will suffer damage if the cambelt looses teeth when the engine is running even at tickover speeds. How do you know that teeth are missing anyway, the belt usually has a cover over it.

By a few teeth..do you mean 1 here and another there??

If you "jump" time, you can do damage to more than just the head. A few valves, the top of a piston....It will all rely on the tolerances inside your engine.

However, if you are not currently noticing anything differant, I would say you are okay. Just don't try to push your luck.

Most likely, no. But do not continue to drive it in this condition, because the belt will break, and depending on your engine type, it can damage your engine. Some engines are non-interference engines, which means the pistons won't come up and smack the valves should the belt break, but most engines are interference, and will damage the valves and pistons, and possible the head.

No it wont damage the head, maybe the valves though. My advice would be to replace it straight away, If it snaps whilst driving it will bend all the valves and it will be a new engine jobby.

No, not really. because I think if you got to that point you couldn't do anymore damage to the engine than what it did a few miles back. Replace a cam belt before it jumps or breaks.

If you are "lucky" enough that it hadn't jumped timing, you might get home, but if it jumped one or more teeth, the valves get real close to the pistons and will damage the pistons/valves/engine...
