I have a class assignment where I meditate for 15 minutes each night and record it.The first time I did it, it was 2 a.m. after having taken a caffiene pill and drinking a rum and coke earlier on. I was sitting in my room, realized it was very quie, and thought "hey! I'll start my assignment tonight".I sat down on my floor with my eyes open, cleared my mind of everything, and this is what I recorded:A twirling flickering in the bottom of my vision. It is bright. A bright sparkling patch appears on a pile of clothes. then my vision goes dim, then bright, in concert with the rhythm of my heart beat. Every 3-4 seconds my visual distortion reaches a maximum peak, then everything looks neon-back lit and I feel like passing out, only to come through to the otherside to find another cycle.I become aware that the color of the teal carpet is flowing toward my body, and my body vanishes. I feel like the room exists, but I do not. Like I am a hologram. This happens 2 or 3 times.
What happened?

Dang girl. I can't believe you took caffeine pill - an upper, then did a rum and coke...a downer.
You are lucky that you didn't have an heart attack.

You were close to having a seizure.

geesh if you are healthy enough to realize meditating is good for you. then why the helllllllllllo would you mix what you did.

Your brain was tweaking. It should of scared the crap out of you.

Don't ever do this again, the next time your brain just might short wire and you may never come back again

Why not deal with life without artificial things
Meditating is good. Add a brisk walk to that without any caffeine. You will be amazed how your own body will respond to fresh air and upping your circulation without drugs.

If you have homework to do Plan your time better so that you can concentrate without caffeine.

Stop messing with your brain chemistry or you might take a trip and never come back You really don't want to spend the rest of your life in a vegetated state in a convalescent home.
What a night mare. Pull yourself together please...

You could also set yourself up for a life time of seizures.

Stop trippn' please!

The visual hallucinations from focal epilepsy are characterized by being brief, and stereotyped. They are usually localized to one part of the visual field and last only a few seconds. Other epileptic features may present themselves between visual episodes. Consciousness is usually impaired in some way, but nevertheless insight into the hallucination is preserved. Usually this type of focal epilepsy is caused by a lesion in the posterior temporoparietal. They generally reverberate with the pulse of your heart beat. rum and caffeine pills generally react to form hallucinogens which impair your neural passages.

The Caffine and Rum did a little dance in your body! Being up at 2 in the morning didn't help either, I'm sure. Reminds me of one time I drank 3-4 vaults, then started seeing green sparks while unrolling a thing of duck tape, at about 4am.

What probably happened was your heart beat increased due to the caffiene you took. In constrast, the alcohol you took tried to depress your system. Your body was getting mixed signals which caused your eyes to produce different things. Notice when you get up too quickly you get the same effect. But yours was magnified due to other factors.

Meditating under the influence of alcohol is not recommended as it can get in the way of the meditation process

No pills, boos or coke...they are harmful and unnecessary. Trust your natural spiritual abilities. Meditate "unplugged"

The condition you experienced is commonly called "drug abuse". The course you are taking is commonly called "basket-weaving". I would recommend taking on a more challenging course that may teach you some employable skills, and reserve weekends for drinking (in moderation).
