Assad could not have been happier because Syrian women, seeing a US official confirming what their husbands, the Imams in the Mosques tell them, and the society at large imposes on them through peer pressure will see in her wearing a Hijab as a confirmation of the societal pressures they are constantly under. No one will ever know how many women took the Hijab on after seeing Pelosi wearing it. The damage Speaker Pelosi is causing with her visit to Syria will be felt for many years to come.

Ah, yes! The Inconvenient Truths keep piling up, don't they? How dismaying it is to see the Democrats going around the ME unilaterally setting back the clock on grassroots democracy movements. Why do they admire thugs so much?

This is exactly why the Democrats can never be trusted with foreign policy, or really anything, for that matter.

Leftist Democrats like Pelosi, have no vision, further than their vision to acheive power, and that is what is making America, ever more unsafe.

This is almost unbelievable, but nothing that the left does, surprises me anymore.

Wouldn't it be great, to live in a world, where the mainstream media would show this very issue of the total harm that Nancy Pelosi has done in her never ending quest for power, at the expense of Muslim woman, at the expense of the security of Israel and the U.S., day after day, for quite some time, instead of living in a world, where this story will only live on the blogs, and only a few blogs at that.

Assad's wife, who is a muslim, does not wear a hijjab.

And hijjab can be a sign of piety that women consciously make, not necessarily oppression. They've been wearing it for hundreds of years anyway. Orthodox Jewish women cover their hair, but no one complains about that. There are worse thing than that. Syria suppresses freedom of speech. Perhaps you should focus on that aspect.

And from the pictures that I SAW, Pelosi only wore the hijab while she was inside the Ommayed mosque, which has a relic (St. John the Baptists Head) important for Christianity. But to enter, she had to cover up.

To Big John: Please do not use the word "Islamofascist." It's an offensive term created by neoconservatives designed to humiliate all those who follow the Islamic faith. That word is beginning to sound a lot like n****** from the colonial days.

In regard to your question, Pelosi made a horrible mistake wearing the hijab. She has disrespected the cause of the thousands of people who are trying to set right the silly perception in the Middle East that women are beneath men and must be subjected to covering themselves so men do not fall victim to their scheming, wanton ways.

There is a good reason that this story only exist on blogs. That is because it is not important. She wore the head scarf because that was the only way to get the Syrian leaders to talk to her, and the fact that the covering is a sign of respect. Case closed. It isn't important. Go rant about something that matters.

Bit of a reach - don't all women cover in a country where tradition dictates that mode of dress? Just like all women wore head coverings in a cathedral when I was a kid - didn't mean I supported catholic beliefs, just being polite. Your source seems to think that covering means support of all fundamentalist doctrine. But here in the US, being a Christian doesn't mean support of extreme fundamentalist christians either. Geeze.

There is little or no doubt in my mind that Nancy Polosi was promoting her idealistic agenda of a Utopian world where anything goes.
She hasn't a clue about the reality of what she has done. Not a clue.
