The Grand Canyon is the result of the Colorado River cutting down the Colorado Plateau. A canyon can not be a mountain as it is a feature that decreases the elevation it is eroding. Yes, the top of the canyon is more than a mile above sea level but a mountain is really a peak in relation to the surrounding landscape which the Colorado Plateau is not, buy Flagstaff Mountain, which is above the plateau to the south of the canyon, is

No, the Grand Canyon is from a major river (the Colorado River) flowing through a major mountain (the Kaibab Plateau). If the Grand Canyon was a mountain it would be called the Grand Mountain, not the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon is the result of water eroding a plain over eons of time. The water carved a great ditch in the surrounding land. If you are at the bottom of the canyon looking up, it might seem like a mountain but if you are on the top looking down, you can see that you are on a plateau and the canyon was dug out by the running of water.

No, it's better described as a 'hole' in the ground.
I've been there -- even backpacking down inside the canyon.
There are small protrutions that are the size of small mountains sticking up inside the canyon, but they are just part of the whole canyon.

No, but it is the remainder of part of the Colorado Plateu, uplifted many, many eons ago and then carved out of the rock layers by the river that now snakes along the bottom of the canyon. It is still being carved, by the way.

No, as the name suggests, its a canyon. Canyons are carved out by erosion, like a river. Mountains are made by colliding tech tonic plates or volcanoes erupting.
