There was a TV show in the late 1950's or early 1960's called "The Millionaire". It was about a rich man who gave away a large amount of money to people with the stipulation that they couldnt tell anyone. My wife and I are having a disagreement as to how much he gave away. She says it was $1000,000.00 and I say it was $50,000.00. Does anyone remember? In 1960 a million dollars was an unbelievable amount of money but now a middle class family can make that much in 15-20 years so it seems unlikely to me. Whos right or are we both wrong?

You are wrong, It was $1,000,00.00. The benefactor was John Beresford Plimton, played by Paul Frees (never appeared on the show,Voice only.). His assistant was Micheal Anthony, played by Marvin Miller. The episode ran from 1955 to 1960.

I used to watch this show with my mom every week. It was about a billionaire named John Beresford Tipton who would give ordinary people a million dollars. His representative Michael Anthony would present it anonymously. It would show how people's lives would change(good and bad) after getting the money.

Your wife was right. And I think the man was named "Mr. Tiptin?" How I, as a young child, fantasized about answering the doorbell and having him on the other side, ready to give me a cool mil!
