Yes definitely. The myth buster TV show put their dummy on the phone and in the shower and the discharged a high charge into their model house. In both cases, their dummy would have been dead if it was a person.

If lightning can fry my computer through the phone line, which it has done, it is not going to treat my ear very kindly if I am talking on the phone during a storm. No telephone call is so important it can't wait til the storm has passed.

yes you should also stay away from windows and doors also use the 30/30 lightning rule. if you hear thunder in 30 sec or less after the initial lightning strike you should stay indoors for more than 30 min
