I have tried plecos but they always die....the tank has been up and running for ten plus years. I would also really like to keep a pleco. I bet I have bought over a dozen and they all die within a month?
I have a filter, heater, all the normal equipment. The tetras do very well. I also have a cory cat that has done well for a few years. Also I have never had a fish get big....I feed twice a day and clean...add water when needed. I had some clown loaches and gave them to my friends son and the things got huge. In my tank they stayed the same forever.
Also, I forgot to say it is a fifty-five gallon tank. There are eight tetras and the cory cat currently...all under two inches.

If your looking for an algea eating fish then you can try one of the smaller Plecos like a Bristle nose or Rubber nose Pleco. I would also get additional Corys to give your one Cory some friends. Your Plecos may be dying because they run out of food. A Pleco can quickly clean up the algea in a tank and need another source of food. Try algea wafers for additional food.

Plecos can be a problem sometimes for some unknown reason. Try a different shop and maybe try a bristlenose pleco. As for what else to put in the tank, some congo tetras would look nice in there.
