sign up for group therapy. or do it yourself. invite him over and gather a bunch of friends who have been or still are in the same situation. have like a "party" with drinks, food and chairs. socialize to help him meet new friends (and maybe a new GF!) and tell him u'll be there for him NO MATTER WHAT!

All you can do is be there to LISTEN to him. He will have to discover on his own that he needs to move on from his past relationship. There's ALWAYS a Reason someone breaks it off with someone.....either they're cheating....or have grown out of the relationship....but there's ALWAYS a Reason...Your friend just doesn't choose to tell you about it. If he honestly has no clue and she just up and left.........yes, that's hard to swallow, but she's made it clear they're over and done with.......HE needs to grasp that and move on.
Suggest he start doing things with his friends or with you..keep his mind off of her..but if he's in this "depressed ..i dont care kinda attitude..and wants to sit and WAIT for Her to change her mind in the hopes they'll get back together.......suggest he seek counselling. GOODLUCK*

Just be there for him when he reaches out to you. Let him know that and tell him you mean it. Tell him you know he's hurt by the break-up and may need time to heal, and you'd respect his wishes, but any time he needs to talk, you'll be there for him. I can see that you really care for your friend, and he will be able to see it, too.

Continue to talk to him about how he feels. Be supportive, recommend new hobbies or interests to him. Let him know that you are not sure how to help him through this and ask him what you can do for him.

allow him to grieve the loss. be there to listen and be supportive. help him heal in a healthy way. and when he's ready hook him up with someone new. he may also need an ego boost, so give it to him by stroking his ego with kind words.

Just let your friend know that you are there and be there if they need you. You can never tell someone what they want to hear. Just be there.
