A friend (white American) once told me that while blacks may visit Australia as tourists, blacks may not become Australian citizens (per Australian law). Is this currently true? If not, was it ever true?

I just checked. there is nothing in the eligibility criteria that indicates race is an issue. Of course, until a black person is denied citizenship and the media picks up the story...who realy knows. Except the Australian Gorvernment.

I have black friends who are Australian - migrated from Africa . There is also a strong Australian arab community - They are full citizens now. Not sure where your friend heard the 'rumour'.

If it was i wouldn't be surprised at all. They forced the blacks that were native to the land out into the wilderness so they damn sure don't want any blacks that aren't native to live there.
