Pixel is the term that is used to describe the way a computer generates ANY picture image. A pixel (or Picture Element) is basically a single dot. The dot lines up with a whole bunch of other dots in a rectangular formation to form the picture your eye can see.

A pixel requires one BYTE of computer data to tell it what color and how bright to be. The more pixels used to generate the image, the more computer memory is required to hold all the picture's information.

IN terms of cell phones there are a few basic choices for digital camera resolution.

1-- 640 X 320. This is a basic camera resolution, and is also called VGA resolution. It is made up of 640 pixels across by 320 pixels down... It is okay for viewing pictures on the screen, but would not print out very well. In print, these pictures would look grainy or fuzzy.

2-- 1.3 mega pixels. Cameras with 1.3 mega-pixel resolution require 1,300,000 individual pixels to make the image. This allows for sharper clarity, better color contrast, and are printable, as long as you keep the printed image at 4 inches by 6 inches or smaller.

3-- 3.0 mega pixels or more. Even sharper, more detailed images. Kind of overkill for most people's uses.

If you need a phone with a camera, and you want printable images, I'd reccommend a 1.3 megapixel camera phone. Make sure your phone comes with a Micro SD memory card to store the images. The card will help you when you want to print. You can remove the card, install it in a holder, and then WalMart or another photo developer can read the pictures from the card and print them off.

A pixel is a little square in a image. A good example of what a mega pixel is ith digital cameras. Basically, the more pictures, the more detailed, refined and better quality your picture is going to be. the more little pixels, the more detail can be fitted in.
