Is there real democracy left, when...?

...on a radio interview a few minutes ago [BBC Radio 4] a commentator said "He [Obama] has a real chance now that he's got a bulging warchest and can build an effective machine."

Money, advertising, lobbying...
Hmm. How much is left of the ideal of people choosing the best candidate, compared to them being spun into choosing the best-presented or least-smeared candidate?

It doesn't exist in the current system. It is a government of the big money for the big money.
