Density dependence occurs when the growth or survival of an individual is affected by the size of the population. Usually, this occurs when a certain environment can support a limited amount of biomass. With density-dependence, you can either have a large number of animals that have difficulty growing or surviving because of a limitation in a resource such as food; or you can have a few, healthy, fast-growing individuals that have all the food they need.

Density-independent factors are ones that affect the growth or survival of an individual regardless of population size. An example of this might be the likelihood of contracting a fatal disease from a mosquito bite. This type of thing depends on an animal being at the same place and time as the mosquito, which has nothing to do with the population size the animal belongs to.

This is all you need to think up some ways these things might occur in a deer population.

lmao, not if you already know! Yer supposed to ask about something you DON'T know hon! lol I can tell you about Texas, I guess it's considered part of the "bible belt". My relatives came here from the eastern states way back when before it was Texas. They were part of the original 400 that came with Travis (?) to Texas to live as part of the deal that the Mexican government made with the US. The idea was to let the Commanche Indian (up near Dallas' way) to have someone to kill other than Mexican ranchers. We were to be a "buffer" between them. Too bad the Mexicans didn't know that we don't do buffers, we wanted land. The journals that my "ancestors" (just back 7 generations, is that an ancestor?) left show what a rough and hard life they had. Tis no wonder they had to be people of great faith to get through the tough times. That's probably why so many today are religious. You can also add in the fact that because we love this country (Texas, I mean) we never left. At current count, just on one side of my family alone, there are 235 people still residing in the Austin area alone. And have been there since 1832.

density dependent factor ---population-limiting factor that operates more strongly on large, dense populations than on small, less crowded ones
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
density independent factor--- factors which affect the population regardless of its population size. These are usually abiotic factors such as forest fires and a high soil ph.
