Or do I have to buy security film? I only seem to find privacy film at Home Depot and Lowes. Is this stuff crap or will it work? What about if a intruder is motivated enough to keep hitting your window?

The films that are sold for DIY are typically thinner than the shatter resistant films from manufacturers like Vista and LLumar (CP Films) and others. The thickness of the film for security applications should be a minimum of 4ML , but generally the most effective security films for intrusion are 8 ML.

If you are looking for an effective shatter film with a reflective coating for privacy; I'd strongly recommend that you use a professional installation company. Check with the IWFA for an industry expert closest to your home at http://www.iwfa.com or Vista Films at http://www.vista-films.com

If your window breaks by accident, the privacy film might help hold the pieces together until you replace the glass, but it won't stop someone determined to break into your house.

It's great for privacy, though.
