YES YES YES and YESSSSS. I am a pharmaceutical rep in and around NYC who sells HIV medications. I won't go into too much detail as I dont' want to get in trouble. TRUE STORY. A Nurse at a catholic hospital was seeing a man who was HIV + and having unprotected sex with an HIV - woman. She realized the extreme danger in this and prescribed him condoms....yes nurses can "prescribe" condoms sometimes so that the patients get them free. The Nurse was then called in to the admin. office of this hospital, and because this hospital was a Catholic run hospital she was written up and was eventually fired. The Catholic church doesn't live in reality and this leads to poor educational programs. YES, they are blind to reality and cause many problems in the community.

Interesting article and I would have one comment to it: not all religious groups are responsible for the AIDS epidemic.

The AIDS epidemic started in Western Africa, so one would think that this is where the highest rates of disease would be. No. Among the Muslim population in those countries the prevalence of AIDS is low. One of the first countries where AIDS was reported, the 90% Muslim Mali, now has one of the lowest rates of AIDS disease in Africa. On the other hand, AIDS was diagnosed in the majority Christian Ivory Coast at the same time, and this country currently suffers from one of the highest incidences of AIDS on the continent.

IMHO the reason:
Catholics / christians are hypocrites. Their dogma is do not have sex till you're married and then only have sex with your wife/husband and sex is meant for procreation purposes only. The result: plenty of extracurricular activity and "screwing around".
The Muslim philosophy tells men: okay, so if you want a woman, you have to marry her. In fact, take as many wives as you want, but all get equal treatment. So if a man really does want to have more sex than his wife wants and he can afford to do it, he becomes a polygamist. In terms of potential for STD, the relationship circle remains closed. And on the women's side, they will not enter into relations with a man without getting married. There is also plenty of control, spying, reputation and stigma at stake so that this will remain the case. Whether or not this is fair is one thing, but it has been helpful in preventing the spread of AIDS.

No.

Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control is against the will of God.

If the world is going to ignore teachings about chastity (1 & 2), then why is the world so upset about teaching artificial birth control (3)?

People who are already ignoring the more important teachings about chastity (1 and 2) should have no problem ignoring the less important teaching of artificial birth control (3).

Even if a person infected with AIDS was to use a condom to help protect his or her spouse, condoms are not 100% effective (read the box) and the spouse may be infected and die anyway. A person who truly loves their spouse would not endanger them in this way.

In regards to sex outside of marriage, the Church makes it a practice not to tell people how to sin. Fornication with or without a condom is still fornication. Adultery with or without a condom is still adultery.

With love in Christ.

exciting article and that i could have one remark to it: no longer all religious communities are in charge for the AIDS epidemic. The AIDS epidemic began in Western Africa, so which you may think of that this is the place the utmost costs of ailment could be. No. between the Muslim inhabitants in those international locations the superiority of AIDS is low. between the 1st international locations the place AIDS replaced into reported, the ninety% Muslim Mali, now has between the backside costs of AIDS ailment in Africa. on the different hand, AIDS replaced into clinically determined contained in maximum folk Christian Ivory Coast on an identical time, and this united states of america at the instant suffers from between the utmost incidences of AIDS on the continent. IMHO the clarification: Catholics / christians are hypocrites. Their dogma is don't have intercourse until you're married and then in ordinary terms have intercourse alongside with your spouse/husband and intercourse is meant for procreation applications in ordinary terms. the effect: lots of extracurricular interest and "screwing around". The Muslim philosophy tells men: ok, so in case you like a woman, you could desire to marry her. in reality, take as many better halves as you like, yet all get equivalent scientific care. So if a guy quite does decide to have extra intercourse than his spouse needs and he can locate the money for to do it, he turns right into a polygamist. in terms of skill for STD, the courting circle keeps to be closed. And on the girls individuals's area, they gained't enter into family members with a guy with out having married. there is likewise lots of administration, spying, attractiveness and stigma at stake so as that this could proceed to be the case. whether or no longer this is honest is one element, in spite of the fact that that's been useful in combating the unfold of AIDS.

No Church of God is responsible whether you are Catholic or not Catholic. Every person is responsible for their own action's.

If you get out into the world and screw up you can blame only yourself.

Since the Catholic Church (and most Christian churches along with them, btw) is very much equal opportunity on this issue, that is, no sex until marriage, I think it's not at fault here. I think instead that the fault rests on the over-sexual and over-promiscuous culture we have today.

2007-04-04 10:21:46 · answer #7 · answered by Adam 2 · 1 0

no they believe you should not have intercourse or anything else like it before you are married....

so for it to be the church's fault would be far-fetched, just because they dont believe in birth control, the people getting married should know whether or not they or their partner has AIDS and if they dont they should be tested.

I think so...especially members of that organization in Africa and Asia.

The above dissenters talk only about catholics in industrialized nations where public media are active, this is not true in most of the world.

To be correct Conner -

They discourage sex for everyone ELSE besides their own priests apparently! ;)

Let's face it, even the most devout Catholics are modern enough to know about safe sex.
