There are a number of products for managing fire ants. None of them last for very long. Bait products will give 3 -4 months of relief. Granular broadcast treatments with fipronil as the active ingredient usually give 12 - 18 months of control.

The key to getting baits to work is to broadcast the bait when the ants are actively foraging. Place a small amount of bait in a pile and wait about 30 minutes. If you find fire ants foraging on the bait it is a good time to treat with a bait. There are lots of baits on the market - Amdro (and all of its variations), Extinguish Plus, Advion, Award, Extinguish, Esteem are examples - all will reduce the fire ant population by 85 - 95%.

Fipronil is found in two products, Over 'n Out and TopChoice. Over 'n Out is the homeowner version and TopChoice is the commercial version. Both work equally well.

I grew up around FT. Worth then SW Oklahoms. ARe you taling about "goathead" stickers and red ants? My mom pulled every sticker plant out by the roots, but that was in the early 60's. I'm sure weed killers will do it. As far as the ants, my Grand mother used to pour bleach down the hole.

i've got used Terro Ant liquid. that's the best i've got got here upon. you placed some drops on a something non-absorbent interior the area you have considered them and that they arrive and lap it up. it quite works like a allure and is not any longer messy (that's a sparkling liquid). They like it. whilst that's long gone, only placed some drops extra until not extra ants come. the main i've got had to apply is two remedies of a dime sized area of the liquid. very right now, you will word ...NO Ants. that's the least puzzling to apply and best product i've got got here upon. do no longer mess with the traps they sell, only get the liquid. They take it back to the source and it kills them additionally. never had an ant project considering the fact that.

The best way to kill ants that I've ever known, have been told is through the use of two large pots of boiling water. The first pot will boil alive everything near the surface and while the survivors are attempting to flee to avoid drowning, you nail them with the second large pot.

What's even better is that with two pots of boiling water, you've generally heated their sand up sufficiently to kill whatever eggs that might have been within their nest and, in doing so, have truly decimated their environment without using any forms of pesticides.

Don't be afraid to use too much boiling water, just don't splash any of it on your precious toesies. It HURTS LIKE HELL!!!!!!!!!!!

Burn Baby Burn (repeat 10x)

I love burning fire ants. Though the one above sounds ever better, burn AND drown them, sounds like it'll work easily too.

For weeds, I'd get either some scotts lawn care, or go to your local hardware store and ask them for the best weed killer.

Wipe out the colony with molten metal. Melt down some aluminum cans and pour the metal down an active ant hill. Aluminum is fairly non toxic and once it hardens you just dig it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdUGCQS1ipY
