but didn't say a word when Republican congressmen did the same?

Is this just more GOP hypocracy?

It's interesting because three of our colleagues, who are all Republicans, were in Syria yesterday and I didn't hear the White House speaking out about that," Pelosi said, referring to the Sunday meeting of Reps. Frank Wolf (news, bio, voting record), Joe Pitts and Robert Aderholt (news, bio, voting record) with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus.

You have gotten a lot of very screwy answers to this question. The worst of which is from "Truth Seeker". How in the world anyone could read that text and believe of one minute that the Speaker of the House or any member of Congress has the authority to conduct foreign policy? They are limited to making laws. MAKING LAWS! That is the job of the legislative branch.

Nancy Pelosi does not represent the United States she doesn't even represent Congress. She represent a few thousand voters in her congressional district and that is it!

What is wrong with you people? She was so far out of line she may as well walked into the Supreme Court and tell Chief Justice Roberts she wants a different decision on some law.

I just galls me to hear people pontificating over the Constitution when all they are trying to do it justify the democrats mis-deeds.

I don't want any congressmen or senators involving themselves in foreign policy matters. STAY HOME!!!

Read the attached link. What is wrong with her?

Hey ChicagoL person, is that why Condi is all over the map?

Well if they did anything right they would mark the score as like 10 for the republicans and 1 for the democrats...but since they do nothing right and most everything wrong, they have no choice but to be mad that in the short time she has been in power she has done more good than the last 7 years this administration has.

The more important question I have - what's the agenda of Pelosi vs the Republicans? I'm guessing nowhere near the same. Why do we let these political mind games bother us? We should all know by now that EVERYONE is trying to throw mud at everyone else cuz THEY want to get elected next year. C'mon - is it really that difficult to see?

Those three members who went were authorized to go. They were in committee for two weeks to discuss with other senators what questions to ask and what statements to make. They were there to show a bit of olive branch and test the waters. When they returned, they were briefed .They have no reason to report to Pelosi... she is not the President. They do not have to report to the American public either until the time is appropriate. Pelosi... never one to be " upped" ... decided to go on her own fact finding mission to a country where a good goat has more value than a woman. Don't you really and truly think the Syrians got a good chuckle out of her??? She undoubtedly did more harm than good.

Because she's not a republican. And if she had been a republican, then the democrats would be criticizing her for visiting Syria.

Wake up people! Our politicians are NOT running the government becasue they are spending all their time sniping at each other. This bipartisan bullsh*t has got to stop.

Not only is there no problem with these threee Republicans in Syria but in the past when Republican Speakers went to other countries you din't hear the hue and cry as with this one.

Again, hypocracy seems to be the word in this Administration and their sympathisers.

Because repubes are looking so stupid that they desperately need to reflect all that negativity on someone else. Also, they are afraid that the Dems might reach a peace accord with Syria and therefore repubes can't wage war, destroy their country, have haliburtion rebuild it, and take their oil.

Same as always. It is "in your face" hypocrisy and arrogance.

The Constitution makes clear that the Congress has broad authority to actively participate in foreign and military affairs. After all, the founders created the legislative branch as the first defined branch of government and afforded to it the power "to regulate commerce with foreign nations," "to define and punish... offenses against the law of nations," "to declare war, grant letters of marque and reprisal, and make rules concerning captures on land and water," and "to make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof."

It is Nancy Pelosi's job to open and maintain the lines of international communication that allow her -- and, by extension, the Congress -- to be full and active participants in the forging of America's foreign policy priorities. She does so not as an interloper on executive authority but as the leader of a co-equal branch of the federal government of the United States.

pelosi is 3rd in line for the presidency and is leader of the house and the opposition to the President. Foreign policy is supposed to be carried out by the executive branch...in case you haven't read the constitution before...

They are criticizing her because the Democrats and Congress are interferring too much with foriegn policy. Foriegn policy rests in the hands of the President and the President alone. When other officials visit foriegn countries, it confuses the leaders who is making the desicions and who they should talk to.
