Do you like accents?

I came to the US almost 5 years ago and by now, I thought my accent was completely gone...that is, until some guy asked my where I was from because there was something about the way I spoke. Since then, I've been trying to speak perfectly. Most people say I don't have an accent, but some say that I do but it's barely noticeable. But I still want to get rid of it as soon as possible even though I still can't tell whether I have one or not. And sometimes I feel like I'm unimportant, or like some people see me as "the foreigner" instead of as myself. In fact, I know they do, and I hate it...a lot.

So, do you like accents? I hate them, especially since I appear to have one, acording to 'some' people.

Actually, yes, only foreigners have accents, people here have DIALECTS. They're two different things.

Accents are interesting and sexy. I personally love them. My father, mother, and I all have different accents. I even dated a guy for two years after I started talking to him because I heard his sexy accent. Anyway, not just foreigners have accents. California, the Midwest, the South and the famous Boston accent are all completely different. I think you may have a bit of paranoia. Anyway, being a foreigner you most likely have superior grammatical skills in English. Most Americans do not speak proper English because they use the vernacular. If anyone gives you a difficult time with your accent I would ignore them (the best thing to do) or start giving them a difficult time with their grammar. Odds are they need it anyway. When I hear someone make fun of an accent I always ask, "Are you jealous they speak more than one language?" because only people that speak one language tend to make fun on an accent. Look ^_^,I came in the us 2.3 years ago and I did have a BIG accent now I guess I'm fine.I don't really care if people tell me that I have accent even if it's not that big ^_^ YOU KNOW EVERYBODY HAS AN ACCENT OF THEIR OWN!

NOTE:Many people like others who have accent so you should be proud.So you want to be like everyone else no accent,you know that people think you are interesting if they see a little accent in you!

Yeah i know how you are feeling..but hey listen, you dont have to change yourself to be more liked or accepted by anyone. People who judge you by the way you speak instead of the things you say, and who you are, are not worth trying to be friends with. You should never have to change yourself dear..im sorry, i know how hard it can be to be percieved as the outsider just cuz of such a simple thing as having an accent..but its who you are, and theres absolutely nothing wrong with it. And your real friends will tell you the same thing, trust me on this one. :)

And to answer your first question, yes i do like accents, in fact i think they´re really awesome cuz they remind me of how many different cultures there are, and how interesting the world and the people in it are. :)

where are you from? i think accents are great and speaking perfect english has nothing to do with accents.. in america we all have different accents anyway.. you have southern accent yankee accent mid west accent west coast accent.. and the people seeing you as a foreigner and thats need to realize that in america are we were all foreigners at one point.. but to the point accents are cool i like them its interesting to hear people speak with an accent.

Accents have to be the sexyist thing ever!!!!!! It drives me crazy (good crazy) when i hear a girl with an accent, russian is hot, french is pretty hot, southern drives me overboard! but a girl with an accent of a hispanic origin, OMG i go frickin nuts!!!!!! only loose your accent for your self. dont worry about what other people think........ and not to mention this is america!!!!!! we dont have any "foreigners" this country is so perefectly mixed. were lucky to have the varriety of people we have......... espically those with sexy accents!!!!!!!!

Silly.. everybody has an accent. I'm from California and there is even a difference in the way northern and southern Californians talk.

I love them. I live in North Carolina, and I have been told I have a nice, and not very obvious, accent.

Most accents are sexy as crazy. Like Australian! Oh baby baby!

I find it exotic on some guys. Probably because I spent too much time here in America to venture out onto other countries and hear their accents.

They are fine sometimes they even are cool some people even want to have them!!LOL(take my science teacher for an example he is always using a French accent)LOL

No, I'm Brazilian... BUT I spend most of my life in the US, so I don't have any accent, except the American accent..
Well, don't worry about it because it shows your real background! BE PROUD!
