It's not a skull at all, but the top portion of the pelvic girdle and part of the attached spinal column of an animal. Due to the fused vertebrae, it's most likely from a bird, probably a water or wading bird.

I really don't think that's an alligator skull. (as I said, I've before, I've probably seen more alligator skulls than most people have seen alligators).
As to what it -is- I have no clue, I'd go with the take it to a zoo/museum/university option, myself, because as we can see, there's a lot of debate among us amateurs on what it is.
As for me being an "expert" 'ex' is former, and 'spurt' is a drip under pressure, please don't call me that. ;)
Keep me informed, I do want to know what it is.
Edited to add.....
It lacks the texturing that a croc skull would have, do I have to scan one of -them- too? Other than shape, croc skulls are nearly identicle to alligator skulls. Yes, their eyes -sit lower on their heads- but are not on the sides of their heads. The fissures in a croc skull are in the same places as in a gator skull.... It's not a croc or a gator, people.

This looks like a croc skull, alligators have much shorter rounder snouts. crocs have long skinny snouts. gators also have closer eyes and crocs eyes are on the side of their head. and it looks rather large. i think it is a croc. maybe you could take it to a zoo or possibly even a museum and ask. they should be able to identify this. good luck and nice find

I can't tell you for sure what it is but it doesn't look to much like a skull but more of a hip but then again if you look at number one it looks like a thin mussel of a alligator because alligators have a thiner nose and crocs. do not.

If you say that it looks like an alligater than it is most likely a camen which is a type of reptile that looks like an alligater or a crocadile but is very different!
