I always leave a tip. If the waiter/waitress seems new and is not too good, I give them the benefit of the doubt that they will improve with expereicne will still leave a tip. If the service is just plain rotten, I will leave a very small tip, enough for them to know I was not happy with the service. If you don't leave any tip at all, they just might think you forgot. By leaving a small tip, they know you weren't happy with the service.

I always leave a tip, but it depends on service as to how much I get a flat 10-15% if I have had marginal service 15-20% for good service and 20-25% for great service, for bad service I have the one dollar rule, I give one dollar for everyone in my party so if there are 5 of us the tip is 5.oo . I usually go to places where folks know me and I get great service therefor I tip well.

Tipping should always be considered!
The food service industry workers are paid very little. The U.S. national average hourly wage is only $2.03. Additionally, food service workers commonly have to contribute to a daily tip share program. Anywhere form 5-10% of their shift gratuity is pooled and shared with bartenders and table bus crews.

These workers depend on gratuity to truly make a living.

With this said, I usually start at 20%. If it stays at this percentage is heavily dependant on the quality of service. This includes the quality and quantity of food/beverages along with the attitude of the server.
If all is well, good food and attentive server, they receive the 20%.

If there is a problem with the food and the establishment refuses or takes too long to remedy this, the gratuity will reflect a reduction in it percentage. This, however, may or may not be the servers fault but if their tips are continually being hampered due to the poor food quality, they should look elsewhere for employment.

On the flip side of the gratuity coin, if the server displays an undesirable attitude, I certainly have no qualms of reducing their gratuity. Remember, this is called the food SERVICE industry. Low level service = low tip!

To sum up my thoughts, there are times that the server has gone above and beyond their specific duties or what is normally expected. In these cases, I will commensurate them with a little something extra. This is usually consisting of an additional cash tip properly folded in the palm of my hand. I’ll shake hands with them while thanking them for the excellent service and whisper to them to just slip that directly in their pocket.

The service must be REALLY bad for me to leave no tip.
Usually, I leave a 15-20% tip. If service is especially good, maybe more.

I always leave a tip. How much depends on the service. If I'm treated badly, I'll leave one cent. The next time I come I'm treated much better. The penny gets my message across loud and clear.

I always do. But it tends to go up as the service does! To me, leaving a 10% tip is an insult so I don't do it often.

I always leave a tip - 20% for good service - 15% for not so good.
