Yes it is partly responsible. No condoms = AIDS. No birth control = overpopulation. Not good in places like Africa.

It's another example of the blame game. The reason HIV/AIDS is rampant is IGNORANCE. There are beliefs in Africa where men believe that having sex with a virgin will cure their AIDS. Babies being raped is all the rage. I don't think Catholicism has any thing to do with that. In this country, many people say they can tell by looking at someone. One out of four people with HIV pass it on to others because they don't know they are HIV positive. Interview people; many actually feel they can tell by observation. The church does have antiquated beliefs, but ignorance about the issues is widespread on many different platforms.Denial is also a powerful coping mechanism. Thanks for posting and protect yourself.

That is article is insane, pure and simple. People make their own choices and in case you have not noticed not many people follow the choices of the Catholic church anyways.
People were not using birth control for their own reasons, not because it was against Catholic ideals. If people were following the rules of the church they would have only had sex with their spouse. If that had been the case there would not have been such a widespread of HIV, because people would not have slept with anyone else. If one of them did have it, it would have been because of a blood transfusion, not drug use. I do not think Catholics are into shooting up either.
Catholics are strict about same sex relationships, drugs, booze and premarital sex along with birth control. I am not saying those are my ideals, but those of the Catholic church ideals.
So basically if you are not following the other rules about religion, you cannot pick and choose and blame them for the spread of HIV because they said not to use condoms.

I think you are mistaken, the Catholic Church ( which I am a proud member of) has acknowledged that they and they're former leaders have made mistakes. I just wanted to point out, also, that in reading a lot of the answers people are saying that the Christians persecute them!?! We were persecuted for hundreds of years in the Roman Empire, we were persecuted throughout different times in history, not to mention they weren't allowed to practice Catholicism in England for hundreds of years and we are still being persecuted today. The Catholic Church is not proud of all the things they have done, but they have done many great things that have helped the people of our world today, not to mention all the great work Pope John Paul II did for everyone. People so easily slander the Catholic Church, without even remembering all the good it has done.

No.
Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control is against the will of God.
If the world is going to ignore teachings about chastity (1 & 2), then why is the world so upset about teaching artificial birth control (3)?
People who are already ignoring the more important teachings about chastity (1 and 2) should have no problem ignoring the less important teaching of artificial birth control (3).
Even if a person infected with AIDS was to use a condom to help protect his or her spouse, condoms are not 100% effective (read the box) and the spouse may be infected and die anyway. A person who truly loves their spouse would not endanger them in this way.
In regards to sex outside of marriage, the Church makes it a practice not to tell people how to sin. Fornication with or without a condom is still fornication. Adultery with or without a condom is still adultery.
With love in Christ.

Serious yes. They are against any form of protection and they are the ones that really introduce many of our young kids to sex because they have no standards and can do whatever pleases you. They have not played theie part in educating and helping our young men, they are all concerned in religious riturals and they forget that the true reason Jesus came to earth to set us free and heal and help out.If you take a survey of the many men who were molested by priests and this is still going on I will agree with your statement.

Oh, please. If you were being a good little Catholic, you wouldn't be running around having so much unsafe sex in the first place. Do you really think that people who have multiple sexual partners are really thinking "Oh, I can't use a condom, it's a mortal sin!"
Right.
