Though burning the flag is protected as free speech, it is the symbol of our nation. There are better ways to voice your opinion than by burning a symbol that many brave men and women have died for. It would be nice of those who didn't like the United States would leave, but they know that if they go somewhere else, life will not be as good. Funny how it is Ivy League students who are complaining, life must be tough for those kids huh? Free speech is what makes America great, but be respectful and educated when arguing something.

These kids are complete idiots and not worthy of the education they are supposedly getting here. Obviously, they are not learning much. If they went to Iran or Iraq, do they think they would get the kind of education they are getting here. I agree with the answers of getting out if you don't like it here.

I wonder if they think they are doing something original or cute? Wake up guys, people have been burning the flag for years. The best photo I saw of a jerk burning the flag was a few years ago. Some jerk, during a parade, lit the flag on fire with kerosene and also set himself on fire. He was dancing around trying to put himself out - while people stood there and watched.

There are too many loopholes in the law that let people get away with things that they shouldn't and maybe just a few too many freedoms.

What ticks me off is that these people have no respect for the country they live in. If someone took their flag and even accidentally did something to it, it would cause an international incident but they can do what they want - because they live here.

The students were from different countries. If I could speak with them, I would ask them why they came here to study if they didn't like the United States.

I got accepted into an English university. I didn't go because I couldn't afford it. But I wouldn't have gone there if I hated England.

If they did this as a joke,I know some kids in college play pranks, I would tell them it is not funny and it is an insult to burn a country's flag.

God Bless the flag. It is a symbol of our nation.

It's freedom of speech and is protected:

"The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1989 that flag burning was protected under constitutional free-speech guarantees, invalidating laws in 48 states and outraging veterans' groups and others who say that an important national symbol should be protected from defacement."

However, according to the article the flag that was burned was attached to a man's house and that's destruction of property and for that they deserved to be arrested.

I don't know why someone would chose to go to school in a country they hate other than the fact that Yale is a top school, but I support freedom of speech even if it is unpopular.

The article indicates that they were burning someone else's flag, so they should be punished for destroying private property. However, burning a flag itself falls under the protection of the first amendment. A flag is a piece of cloth; you can't hurt a country or idea by burning a piece of cloth. Do we have freedom of speech, or not?

This is a serious answer. I didn't think it was against the law to burn the flag. I know I saw that on T.V. They had to have been arrested for another charge and they were burning the flag.

Prank or not it is a disgusting act. What if we took the flags from each of their countries and burned them then said "Ha-Ha it was a stupid thing to do, oopsie sorry" It is disrespectful
to the people that live here, to their classmates that are from the US, to the school that most would give their eyeteeth to get into and everyone else that has fought for this country from the beginning of time!

Obviously the USA is good enough for them to go to school in, to work in, to play in, to live in, to visit, etc...

If one has that little regard for the place they live then maybe they oughta go to where they are going to be happy. Find your happiness elsewhere boys. We don't want nor need to your type of crap here. Got enough troubles of our own from our own citizens!

Yes, I know one of them fcktards took the test to become a citizen...

Yale is in NEW HAVEN...NOT NEW YORK....

So far they haven't given a motive for the flag burning, so it doesn't sound like a typical political statement...
The flag was attached to somebody's house, so the action was potentially dangerous, regardless of its intent.
And the suspects admitted the action was "dumb."
I was shocked at the involvement of Hyder Akbar in this incident, and I really wonder what he was doing. I wouldn't have expected this of him.

Yup, if it's so bad get out and back to where ever they think it's better to live! And since it was displayed from a private residence, it is arson so I hope they get the maximum for this. It was not theirs to burn, even if that is for some reason protected behavior (it's not speech so how can that be used?)
