Public buildings; no. Private buildings; who cares, they're private. DC banned smoking in all public spaces such as bars and restaurants and shopping venues. Everyone initially complained saying that bars would particularly lose business. Actually, there has been no drop in business at all and even occasional smokers enjoy going out more because they don't smell like an ashtray by the end of the night. The bottom line is that smokers do not have the right to expose other people to smoke from their cigarettes. Smokers have a choice to smoke or not, non-smokers do not have a choice to breathe in smokers' smoke when they are exposed.

As a smoker, i became very visit awaken this morning and hear that smoking in my automobile - which I do usually - is now banned. No note, no caution. My automobile isn't a company automobile, I hardly ever have passengers (and if I do, i do not smoke) and that i do not eliminate my cigarettes out of my window. I genuinely were smoking longer than I genuinely were using, and that i will merely locate and gentle a cigarette without taking my eyes off the line - i detect it more advantageous distracting attempting to regulate the radio station. And in 15 years of smoking at the same time as using, I genuinely have in no way once dropped a cigarette in my lap. After somewhat learn, notwithstanding, i got here across that smoking isn't banned, as such - it really is merely antagonistic to suggestion. if you're using dangerously, committing a using offence or centred on an coincidence at the same time as smoking, then you'll face a more advantageous intense penalty. notwithstanding, smoking on your automobile is seen inadvisable extremely than unlawful and a contributary aspect in case you do some thing incorrect. So, I shall nevertheless be fortuitously lights up at the same time as using - it really is about the merely position i am going to smoke without pissing someone off those days.

I think Big Brother is going too far. I do NOT smoke, but I understand how hard it is to control an addiction, and people should be allowed to smoke when they need to. I think the closing of whole towns, as has been done several places here in Texas, is absolutely ridiculous. I realize that smoke is annoying. I don't like it either, but these people are human too, and beyond that, they are taxpayers. In fact, they pay more taxes than non-smokers do!

No smoking where the general public is involved. My rationale:
1. Restaraunts would ban smoking as they are granted licenses to operate based on their agreement to maintain standards of health (clean kitchen, employees wash hands). They are public establishments that are regulated and smoking is a proven health hazard.
2. Private - entirely up to the private owner, this is their choice to enjoy a legal item. The general public is not affected.
3. Around public buildings - just give the non smokers a little space.
4. Businesses - only if the general public enters the establishment and they interact. Same as restaraunts. Examples are grocery stores, department stores and such. Most don't allow smoking today, so not a big deal. Other than that, it's up to the individual business to set their policy. If a company wants smoking, so be it.

Tobacco is a LEGAL product on which users pay a hefty tax.
Government now taxes the product, then restricts its use..this makes no sense whatever. Certainly, non smokers have a right to a smoke free environment, but who ought to make the rules? I say that in the case of a bar or restaurant, the OWNER OF THAT PROPERTY ought to decide. If some one does not like the policy, whatever it is, they do not have to patronize that place. same with employees...if they don't like the policy, they can apply elsewhere. This is what a FREE SOCIETY is all about.

As for public outdoor places...don't get me started. If you are going to ban smoking outdoors, then you better ban cars too. Why should i sit on my lawn and breathe the fumes from your SUV, while you whine and complain about my cigarette?

I'm a smoker but I believe that other people shouldn't have to be. By that I mean people who don't smoke shouldn't have to smoke my 2nd hand smoke. So smoking in public should only be allowed outside and at least 20 feet from public entrance.

It should be up to the owner of the establishment.

Being an American and all...I don't really like the idea of NOT allowing people to smoke in a building, that I own, because the government says so.

If it is public property, and the majority rules that smoking should be banned- than ban it like it was a cheap tricycle. However, I don't think the government should tell private enterprises who can be on their property- that's for the owner to decide.

NO...People should NOT be allowed to smoke in public and private buildings. Only smoke outside away from NON-smokers.

I'm not totally anti-smoking by the way. I just think if you have restrictions on where people should smoke then it helps to stop some teenagers/young adults from ever starting.

It's like biting the hand that feeds them,. Non smokers so belly ache about smokers but sure enjoy the taxes they get off the revenue of the cigarettes. And yet do we forget the cancer treatment centers millions and perhaps billions of dollars spent annually to keep doctors, surgeons and lower staff in annual incomes. And yet it's a joy to the smoker.

I do not smoke but I don't see the big hub bub since I have never met someone that has died from second hand smoke. I question that myth anyway.
