And please don't give me "oh, they wouldn't have voted for it if they knew the six words about yellowcake were based on exaggerated intelligence."

They voted for the war because in the political climate after 9/11 they felt they had to look tough.

First thing, most of the Democrats in Congress voted against the Iraq War Resolution. In the House, Democrats voted 126 against and 81 for. In the Senate, the vote was 29 for and 21 against.

Next thing, the lies and manipulations of the intelligence led to confusion, enough to lead some to give Bush the benefit of the doubt. That was a serious, serious mistake on their part. Bush is not and never has been trustworthy.

It sounds like you have already made up your mind on this issue, but it is also possible that the Democrats recognize that the vast majority of Americans feel the Iraqi war was a big mistake (if not an outright fraud), and they are seizing the opportunity to side with the citizens. Both parties have a role to play in this fiasco. Just because the Dems are flip-flopping, doesn't make what the GOP is doing any more correct.

Except we never had 300,000 troops.

The democrats had to vote for the war because public support for the President and his policies was at an all-time high after 9/11 and all of the grand-standing he did. There would have been a public outcry if the congress didn't follow the so-called "evidence" that the administration had. Unfortunately, the evidence was all fabricated (what they now call faulty), and so they basically capitalized off of the deaths of 3000 Americans to pursue their own selfish interests and the American people fell for it.

I have no problem with what you said, but it still doesn't change why they are anti-war now. They are anti-war not because of the 6 words on uranium that were lies...

They are anti-war because of the 6 million words of lies that the Bush Administration has told since then, and why the Republicans were voted out. They lied too much and nobody trusts them anymore...

Think of it as the straws that broke the camels back...

You answered your own question...no fair. While I am "democrat" I guess, I must say that they were certainly trying to save face but the decision ended up hurting a lot of people. Many people have no idea what exactly our country is fighting for...and the one answer I like the most is that we are trying to help free the Iraqi people and help them start a good, stable government that they can be in charge of. In return, the US can start a healthy relationship with Iraq. That's what I gathered from reading up on our candidates for 2008 election. But other than that, I would say just what you said...they had to look tough. What else were they supposed to do? What would you do in a situation such as that? This?

you answered your own question in the last sentence. At the time they felt is was best to support the President. Remember this all went down early in this presidency, so we didn't know how big of a screw up he was at the time.

it's like what they say . . . you learn life lessons over time . . .just be sure not to repeat them. Dems feel by going along with Bush now they'd be repeating mistakes they've made already.

If I swindle you out of your life's savings and you discover that you were lied to will a court let me off the hook if I say "he gave me the money willingly."? of course not. It's not Congress's fault or the American people's fault they were kept in the grip of fear and believed GWB falsehoods.
And only an idiot would realize that an error was made but say" well, I made that decision, I see that it's wrong now but I'm going to stand behind my bad choice.".
Oh, BTW: some of the Republican rats are desserting that sinking ship too, what about them in your analysis?

it seems to fit with the compassionate tree hugging ideals and would seem to be the ones you'd need to convince. As right wing usually supports the military and such is even the term right wing paramilitary and left wing is called guerillas. The term is militarist for people who are citizens who support the military. in cuba militarists support the govt and ruling president but if they challenge it they are revolutionaries or guerillas. It is a distinction meaning do you agree with the system or not. But it has gained characteristics in our society that becomes dem vs repub with certain ideals to each. I hope that help you understanding of what it is to be liberal or conservative.
