Usually 40 and older is when doctors palpate the prostate looking for hardening or increase in size to evaluate whether further investigation is needed for the presence of cancer. There are also considerations for rectal cancer and a smear of poo is checked for occult blood which has to be ruled out for cancer. It's quick and easy and usually not painful unless the man has hemorrhoids. Have a nice day.

I don't think the doctor has to be any specific age to do a PSA on a patient.
