Among the many popular Conservative fabrications, this one may be the most ridiculous. Only a simple-minded half-wit would believe that if we end the occupation of Iraq and redeploy our troops, all the “terrorists” will hop on a plane and follow us home. That anyone would believe this propaganda is incomprehensible. The notion that our military presence in Iraq is keeping the terrorists there is utterly absurd. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
Are we really fighting terrorists in Iraq or are we helplessly trapped in the crossfire of a civil war? How do you identify a true terrorist and distinguish them from Iraqi citizens defending their sovereignty? If another country invaded America, would we not defend ourselves? Would the defenders be called “terrorists”? How does the war in Iraq prevent terrorists from coming to America? Where’s the credible connection?

Our Mexican border is far from being secure, our ports are open season for terrorists, and the Canadian border, although somewhat protected, falls way short. Terrorists can literally come and go as they please. They live among us right now—thousands of them. To believe that the Iraqi War is preventing another 9-11 attack is foolhardy. It took the terrorists years to plan and execute 9-11; they are very patient people. Rest assured they are conspiring at this very moment, planning another attack on American soil. And the war in Iraq has nothing to do with this agenda, nor does it prevent it.

Terrorism does not reign under a specific flag; it is a global movement. Bullets cannot defeat a perverted ideology. The only way to fight terrorism is with police work, sharing intelligence, and by launching a cooperative, worldwide movement to identify terrorist groups, choke off their funding and break them up. If you believe that the war in Iraq is a war on terror, you are pitifully naïve.

The only way to fight terrorists is through covert means. Direct military action only breeds more terrorists.
Iraq is now a recruiting and training ground for terrorists. Before we took out Saddam there was little connection between Al Qeuda and Iraq at least according to the 911 commission. Bush's policies have been a disaster. Even Jim Baker admits it.

No. We're fighting them over there because, in the 1990s, Saddam Hussein took out a contract on the life of George H.W. Bush. Bush I was never able to capture Saddam and punish him. Bush II decided, when he made the decision to run for the office of President, that he was going to finish what Daddy couldn't. 9/11 provided a small but distinct window through which Bush II could jump to mislead the emotionally shell-shocked American people into believig that Iraq is the world's center of terrorism, and in order to defeat the terrorists, we just had to go in and dispose of Saddam.
That's why we're fighting them there. They won't come here if we leave - there have only ever been two confirmed foreign terrorist attacks on United States soil (and I mean our actual soil, not embassies, which exist in war-torn countries and therefore draw attacks all the time). That's in our ENTIRE HISTORY. Terrorists are not constantly trying to invade our country, take over and convert us to Islam. They do not have that power. We seem to want to give it to them by believing this "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here" crap, but they don't have it.

Yes, partially. I resent being called a half-wit because I believe that by showing weakness to the enemy (leaving because of their pressure, their terms) that terrorists could focus more attention, planning, and resources on attacking US soil. Why is that so ridiculous?
Where do you suggest we fight them?
Or do you believe we can focus on Afghanistan and get Bin Laden and this whole terrorism thing will be over?
Add: So you think it is a law enforcment issue? I do not. You will never be able to pursue them in a law enforcement manner because of the states (governements) that support them. If we are weak in this effort they will ever increase their efforts. Remember these terrorists who have a radicalized Islamic belief that we are infidels and must be destroyed are not going to negotiate peace with us or stop in their efforts to destroy us.
Oh, I almost forgot to argue like you do. And if you do not believe this you are a moron.
Childish, but I guess that is what you must understand since you use the tactic with such frequency.

Stop using logic, you're giving all the airhead cons a headache! Now they're terribly confused because Rush was apparently NOT right! Oh darn, they'll just have to sit and wait another day to get their brain reprogrammed back into rabid hate mode again!

I didn't know that Iraqi insurgents were trying to attack us, and I don't think we are fighting terrorists there. So since we are there and terrorists are not, then where are the terrorists?

No we are trying our best to help the Sunni's since they are the smaller of the two to gain control so the Saudi's can take over the oil.
Terrorists: Scary word isnt it.
I do believe they would all fly here ASAP and try to blow us up. They all have full militaries don't you know, planes, boats, everything you need to come to the states and blow us all up.
I agree with you totally, if they wanted to they would.
But if you are worried pay attention to the color warning system, it could save your life, really it could.

I'm afraid so
It's really to bad, because an old retired USMC liberal like me would love to get in the action.
But Bush is denying us that privilege.

the fact that we had one 9/11 is one time too many and, if you think their hatred for us will go away, you are fooling yourself! They feed on their hatred for us and nothing will stop that!!!!
