do they lowere a coffin, while family and friends are there? or do they lower the coffin into the ground after everyone has left?

the family is there wheh they lower it. some funerals show u the dead person but some don't................ so if they do have a open coffin i suggest u don't go up there when i see an open coffin and i am close to that person i cry and they look diff. so if some one has died i'm sorry *sob sob* email me @ sksquared30@yahoo.com

It depends. Sometimes they lower it (usually at Jewish funerals they do); sometimes it rests on rails above the open grave with the flowers and all on it until everyone leaves.

Its at the family's request...some dont like to see it lowered, some do....good luck
