Earth is named Terra (Ge) Now in case you have self assurance in what the Greeks say, or do you have self assurance what the Romans say? Greeks believed that the planets etc have been of distinctive religions. The Romans like each and every thing else took it for there very own. yet another words the the two named them after gods. yet apparently the do no longer mean precisely a similar. Supposedly Terra (GE) married Coelum. The Greeks conceived of Olympus, their optimal mountain, on the barriers of Macedonia and Thessaly, becoming very nearly 10000 ft.They theory that replaced into living house of the greater beneficial gods. There Zeus, afterwords pointed out with Jupiter, had his palace, and presided over all gods. however those Gods of the international's break of day have fled from earth. Its an particularly thrilling yet deep subject, yet its previous me to describe each and every God and planet earlier interior the Golden age. perchance that's why maximum of human beings are disillusioned with the reclassification of Pluto. Oh Siu02uk please do. i'd desire to grant you greater information :)

Actually, the Earth was a pre-Olympian goddess of ancient Greeks (known as Gaea). In that sense, our planet IS named after a mythical figure after all. Gaea was worshiped as the universal mother and there are still expressions that reflect this fact even in our days (mother earth etc). In modern Greece, planet Earth is still called Gaea (pronounced as Gee).

From the Old English "eorthe," meaning soil/dry land. I found this on www.etymonline.com
I guess the others were named after mythical figures, because at that time, this planet was not known to be one among the others.

i think that its called earth because thats what it was called in the Bible. and i think everyone back then was very religous. so they just said this place we live on is earth and they started nameing the rest of the planets after gods and so forth.
