You can't ever say never, but I very much doubt that Houston will get into one of the "major" conferences any time in the foreseeable future. SEC and Big 12 have as many members know as is practical for football.

The only possibility is that one of those conferences drops a member at a time when UH is attractive.

There is no way to answer whether they will ever switch conferences, however big time conferences are only looking for a school that consistently competes in a large variety of sports, especially basketball and football. Also, many conferences do not want to expand in size, and are hard pressed to push out a school, especially if the school has a great history. So, in the short run i would say no, but who knows about the future. I think the Big 12 would be much more likely than the SEC due to the SEC's current football resume and level of competition.

It may happen, but its highly unlikely. I don't see them going to the SEC ever. The only scenario I can forsee in which they get into a major conference is if Baylor continues to suck and doesn't win any conference games in the Big 12 for like 5 years. Then the Big 12 could drop Baylor and add Houston, but thats highly unlikely IMO.

The University of Houston might get in the Big 12 or SEC simply because of their football program. Certain teams in the Big 12 and SEC (Baylor, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt) suck so much in football. It would be fun seeing Houston in the Big 12 or SEC though.

Houston wouldn't even be ATTRACTIVE to the SEC or Big 12! The only logical choice, should they ever choose to move would be a lateral move to either the MAC or the WAC and i don't think they'd join either one. They need to keep themselves right where they are in the good ol' C-USA.

no way could they compete, especially in the SEC...can you imagine any good recruits going to UH over teams like LSU, AU, UGA, UT, UF, ARK, USC...etc? it wouldn't make any sense for the program, though they would actually make more money no question. but they aren't a big enough school and in the middle of big 12 and sec country there's no sense in doing that...plus, both conferences have 12 teams, why would they need another?
