The Space Race. I did one many years ago on that topic. You delve in both Russian and American culture.
The title of mine was "The Space Race and its Effects on American Culture".

State your topic in the form of a question so that your research will be the answer to that question. That way you will end up with a research paper and not just a report. For example: Why was Gettysburg the turning point of the Civil War? Or: How much did Roosevelt know about the attack on Pearl Harbor before it occurred? Or: What was Lincoln's position on slavery from the time he first held elected office to when he was President of the United States? Or: Was President Bush justified to attack Iraq?
Each of these has differing points of view and would make for an interesting research paper. Good luck.

is this college level, high school or elementary?
Well it depends on your interests but I think these are interesting:
French Louisiana in the historical context is always an interesting paradox. For example: The "free persons of color" are found in French colonial Louisiana as early as 1725. According to the Code Noir, the free person of color had the rights of any citizen of French Louisiana, except for marriage with and legacies from whites. In 1812 Louisiana's Battalion of Free Men of Color was unique in the United States.

The Salem Witch trials. A fascinating story that people usually don't dig very deep into.
Watch "The Crucible" with Wynona Rider and you'll be instantly interested in the Salem Witch Trials.. BUT the movie isn't 100% accurate, so you'll have to research it out carefully!!

I am not a christian of any sort but revelations in the bible and how it talks about iraq in it's current status. How could they have known about the fall of babylon (iraq) all those years ago. It's a very interesting topic and allows other students to put forward their opinions for debate. Google it and see what you find.
