Yes, the chances decrease by a lot. It depends how old you are, though, cuz once you hit about 40 it still has a high rate of miscarriage with a heartbeat. Good luck!

i had miscarriage last august at 11 1/2 weeks. now i'm pregnant at 12 weeks 6 days.
Once you see the fetal heart beat above 100 beats per minute your risk of having a miscarriage is well below 10 percent.
A miscarriage (spontaneous abortion) is any pregnancy that ends spontaneously before the fetus can survive. The World Health Organization defines this unsurvivable state as an embryo or fetus weighing 500 grams or less, which typically corresponds to a fetal age (gestational age) of 20 to 22 weeks or less. Miscarriage occurs in about 15-20% of all recognized pregnancies, and usually occurs before the 13th week of pregnancy. The actual percentage of miscarriages is estimated to be as high as 50% of all pregnancies, since many miscarriages occur without the woman ever having known she was pregnant. Of those miscarriages that occur before the eighth week, 30% have no fetus associated with the sac or placenta. This condition is called blighted ovum, and many women are surprised to learn that there was never an embryo inside the sac.
Some miscarriages occur before women recognize that they are pregnant. About 15% of fertilized eggs are lost before the egg even has a chance to implant (embed itself) in the wall of the uterus. A woman would not generally identify this type of miscarriage. Another 15% of conceptions are lost before eight weeks' gestation. Once fetal heart function is detected in a given pregnancy, the chance of miscarriage is less than 5%.

According to a pregnancy book I have had home, the chances of miscarriage at 8 weeks with a heart beat are less than 5%. At the beginning of the second trimester, its around 1%.

I have read that the miscarrige chances decrease with the heartbeat being present. I had a miscarrige last year too and I am now 8 weeks 6 days. Good luck to you. We are waiting until after the first trimester before telling anyone just to be on the safe side.

Hi Amy, yes the chances of miscarraige reduce now but they will reduce greatly once you get to 12 weeks. I have had 4 miscarraiges in the past and am currently pregnant again. I saw babys heart beat at 8 weeks and now at 12 weeks it is still strong and healthy. I hope now to carry my baby full term and I am less frightened of having a miscarraige. As you know it is hard once you have one you auto think you will have another.
Im sure everything will be fine. Take care, relax and enjoy being pregnant. Im sure all will be welll. Good luck and take care. Congratulations on becoming a Mum! xxx

i think its just important to wait til the 12 week mark when most of the structures have developed, i think then the chances decrease but obviously things can still happen to some. i know from week 9 it can be called a foetus and by week 12 you can listen to the heart beat. try to listen to what ur body is telling you and relax and not stress out too much. i bled heavily throughout pregnancy but everything was ok in the end

Hi, I read in a pregnancy magazine that if you reach 8 weeks then your pregnancy has an 80% success rate, when you reach 12 weeks then it goes to 97%. That me feel better any way. Try to relax although I know its hard when you have experienced a m/c before, i am in the same situation but am only 6 weeks and 5 days preg. Good luck xx

My doctor told me that it used to be true that once you heard the heartbeat, you were safe from miscarriage, but that was when the heartbeart was normally heard around 3 months. Now, with state-of-the-art equipment, the heartbeat can be heard much earlier than it used to be and it's too early now to rely on that anymore as a standard for being out of the danger zone.
On a more positive note though, most women have successful pregnancies after a miscarriage.

Yes your chances decrease after you hear a heartbeat but its still a chance. After you get into the second trimester your odds of survival increase as well. Its tough.
Just try to be realistic. Alot of woman have had perfect healthy babies after miscarriage and some can not.
