* Endust works wonders for me.
* Check your furnace filter -- make sure that it's relatively new, and filtering our dust and particles from the air it circulates.
* If you have the money for it, have a service come and and clean your air ducts. Dust can build up in these, and make it very hard to keep things clean.
* The floors may need to be refinished. If they're looking dull every day, it's probably because they are scratched and scuffed. This, again, is something that can be pricey, but it possible to DIY if you're up to it. Talk to the people at your local home improvement store for how to do this.
* Also, be careful what you clean your floors with. Hardwood is finicky, and using the wrong stuff will make it look cloudy and dingy. Murphy's oil soap is the best thing for wood floors that I've found so far.
* Clean from top to bottom. The dust has to come from somewhere. Make sure you are dusting from the ceilings down when you clean, and that you clean the tops of the baldes on any ceiling fans.
* Sometimes repainting helps. Depending on the age of your home, you may need to repaint to seal plaster dust back in. It sounds wierd, I know, but it does help. Also, if you have wallpaper, the glue can degrade into dust.
*Have your home checked for termites.
When it comes right down to it, though, you just may have to make peace with it, and become best friends with your swiffer.

My floors are wood also and are hard to keep clean and get them looking clean, but I have to keep in perspective that I have no carpet which hides dirt and is never really ever clean. That makes me relax a bit.

Have you had the duct work cleaned out? If the house is older, every time the furnace or AC turns on all the sediment inside those ducts could be blowing into the rooms.

Buy an air purifier and get swiffer florr duster form quick touch ups on your floors. You can also get other swiffer products for quick dusting jobs. I also recommend a good quality ostritch feather duster if you do not want to have to buy the hand help dusters. If it is a good quality one, it does just as well of a job as a swiffer. That is what I use at home. I also recommend flylady .com for home cleaning and organizing tips and motivation. Flylady isa yahoo group and I swear by it.

Clean your ceilings and walls, then your furniture, then your floors, get an air purifier, that should keep it cleaner longer...
