A degree in computer sciences, University Of Wisconsin or University Of Minnesota?

I plan to transfer from a community college in Wisconsin next year and take distance learning classes. What one do you think is better?

Also this is totally random, but do those who take distance learning attend graduation with everyone? Becuase that would really suck not having a graduation for somthing so big in my life.

Both are excellent state schools. Both are huge schools. Wisconsin is a little more selective, so is rated a little higher. However, I believe that Minnesota has a slightly better Computer Science department.

Minneapolis and Madison are both great cities. Minneapolis offers better employment opportunities if you want to move there to finish classes in person.

UW Madison is a more prestigious school. In rankings Madison is #35 and Minnesota is #61. I believe Madison also has the better Comm Arts program. However if you live in Minnesota it would be cheaper to go there. Also there may be more opportunities to get experience in event planning in Minnesota as the University is in a larger city.

I went to Madison Area Technical College and UW Madison. Both are great schools for computer science.

I got 2 degrees from MATC and dropped UW Madison due to the lack of hands on experience.

My friend stuck with UW Madison and now he makes great money in software engineering. I make great money in network engineering.

At MATC, there were many people transferring from UW due to how hard the classes were with little to no lecture or classroom time on advanced topics. Thats why MATC was better for me. The classes were small, the teacher knew my name, and i could easily read ahead and then ask the teach if i got stuck. We also worked on real world simulated system projects

The UW BA looks a lot better on a resume because its so hard. My friend got a job right away, where as it took me about a year after graduation till i was in a position i liked.

If you don't mind how hard the coarses are, UW is the better school for computer science. (both are better than Minnisota)

Both schools are great - however, I really like the U of M. There just seems to be a lot more resources to find there. Maybe it's because I'm more comfortable in the cities, but I wanted to get away from UWEC too - just wanted to get out of town and really enjoyed Minnesota. We all graduted together - but at different times, some degrees took a few courses more to complete so we had another smaller ceremony too. Good luck with your choice!
