My memory stick is corrupt - I cannot retrieve any of the files on it. I am a teacher and lots of my planning from several years is on it. (Should have backed it up, I know!) Is there any way to get these files back again so I can view them successfully? Thanks for any help

What makes you think it is corrupt? I know this is always possible but I also know from experience, that theoretically we should be able to plug and unplug devices into USB ports, it doesn't always work that way.

I have had the experience where I just unplugged and powered off, I could not plug in another device at power on. I had to reinsert the device I unplugged, go through the "safely remove hardware" process - then it worked.

Please give it a try. If this doesn't work, take it in to a store like Office Max, Best Buy and talk to a tech. They can check it out for sure.

Unfortunately when those thumb drives go bad, they go really bad and are unrecoverable. I've had this happen to me before, best thing you can hope for (unless someone knows a good trick that I don't know) keep plugging it into different usb ports and if your real lucky it may connect long enough to copy all or some of the files. But to be honest, its probably hosed.

Ok all is not yet lost. Good news is there is a programme you can install on the computer which is designed to do what you want,no guarantee but I have used it successfully. Bad news is it was on an old computer and I have forgotten what it's called. Try this linkhttp://www.micromart.co.uk you will have to register (free) and then post a question on the forums there. Some brilliant guys on there, someone may well know. Hope This Helps and good luck.

I'm sorry to hear this, I know how annoying it is to lose that much important data.

When its corrupt you need to clean it:

>Right click on the icon > format..

This will wipe all the information on it. But there is more chance of it becoming corupt again, so use this for a temporaty time, and buy a new one.

KEEP YOU IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS BACKED UP

I know this is very stupid but is there any chance that someone has switched your switch on the stick half way?

try as suggested earlier. pass to initiate, press run, style CMD, style cd F:, style chkdsk /f. after I say F:, replace F on your force letter. you are able to also prefer to attempt formatting the disk. once in command instant, format F: and any parameters you want. style format /? for a catalogue.
