Too many to answer, but I think King Crimson may be the best. They really have no rules and no limits. They've been an undergroud success for almost forty years and have been imitated by everyone from Led Zeppelin to Talking Heads to Nine Inch Nails. Even Kurt Cobain was a fan, even though he obviously didn't get any influence from them.
I love that they had a big hit--"21st Century Schizoid Man"--in 1969 which they could make a comfortable living playing evey night in nostalgia concerts, but have not played since 1975. Actually, several former band members have done just this, forming a coverband of their own band, which is really weird. But the real band hass continued to change their sound with every album, constantly progressing and creating new forms of music all the time. Progressive rock, soundscapes and Industrial Metal can all be atributed to them or the solo work of their leader Robert Fripp.

Good Charlotte - the best bands are able to change their styles to keep every fan happy and grab new ones, GC are able to do this, going from PunkRock to PopRock to GothicRhythm To UpbeatDance. Good Charlotte are talented and respectable. They are great live. And not stuck up like most famous bands.

Coheed and Cambria - Claudio's voice is unlike any other in the industry and the music has a little bit of everything - not to mention the story behind the characters Coheed and Cambria and the comics to go with it.

Queen- they are the four best musicians and songwriters in my opinion and they make me happy when i listen to them. Coming in second for me would be Led Zeppelin and The Beatles.

Led Zeppellin, rock and roll at its purest. A perfect combination of blues, fast guitar licks, and kick *** drums.
