There is a fine line between comedy and racism jokes.
Some jokes from blacks about whites ring true.
Some jokes from whites about blacks ring true.
I'm white and I like all jokes (even dead baby jokes - those jokes never discriminate between black and white). Sometimes, the more offensive, or off the wall a joke is, the funnier it is.
What Michael Richards (Kramer) said during his stand up routine was not funny. It was just plain racism with no humor.
A funny (true) story I remember is when a black ( woman ) recruit cried racism to an (white) Army recruiter because he said black people tan nicely under the sun. (He wasn't trying to be funny.)
When the investigation toward his remark began, his (black) wife testified she felt he made no intentional racist remark. (He meant her skin was nice looking after sun bathing.)
Some people cry racism too easily.

We're living in a time when society thinks it's perfectly acceptable to be a black racist. Even the government supports it. Consider affirmative action. What is that other than institutionalized racism? So -- it's ok for a black comic to say whatever he wants about white people because society says so.

I'm personally not into jokes that are meant to be directed at specific groups of people, so neither of those types of jokes are acceptable in my opinion. As for why some people feel it's ok for blacks and not whites, blacks went through hell at the hands of whites and some whites still think we aren't equal so I guess it's just a touchy thing.

I hear racist jokes from everyone. I don't know if it is because I'm black that i find some white jokes funny. I went into a white supremist website and the jokes on there were hilarious and they were about me and my people! that is a sensitive area though. White people have to walk on eggshells when they publicly speak of race, because it can easily go to far. You saw what happened to "Kramer" off of Seinfield. He could have gotten killed for what he said. White people have a history of bad following behind them. So they are under the eye of a lot of people who are ready to throw a civil rights lawsuit on them. Black people have they "stereotype" of saying what they want to say, so we take advantage of that.

As i am one the most un-racist people in the world, I have an unbiased opinion of this. I am a white woman who has always been friends with black people. I'm not sure why, but it has always ended up that way. My friends would never ever make fun of me for my race, and I wouldn't make fun of theirs. It is racist for a black person to talk badly about any race, including whites. It isn't their right, or okay just because the person is black. Have you ever thought of this?? Here are some things that even my black friends agree with......
Black people have BET... notice there isn't any "white entertainment TV"? Why?? Because then the white people would be racist.
There is the united ***** college fund. But is there a fund JUST for white people. No! and why not?? Because we would be racist because of it!!
Did you know that a group of high-schoolers (at MY old high school) decided to start a group for white people, because there was a group for black people, Asian people, Indian people etc. A group of white kids started an after-school group that was for white people only. Two days later, they were expelled and taken to court.
Is that fair????!!! No! Just because some of the great-great-great ancestors of white people owned slaves, we are being punished. Our generation looks trashy, because of so-called "Urban Fashion". Our generation's music is foul, because of so-called "Gangsta Rap", and today's raunchy hip-hop epidemic. Our children will have to deal with these problems. The racism, the nastiness in the music, the problems and distance between the races...
Ever thought of that???

I have seen white comics do the same. I still laugh, because I have learned to laugh at myself. There are people on this yahoo site Black or White, or Hispanic, or whatever that are not even trying to be funny.. and they still manage to make me laugh.
Don't take it personal!

I agree that you cannot selectively use the term racism and condone certain types of bigotry. Also, why is it okay for white, blacks, and hispanics to make fun of Asians ? Shaq made fun of Yao Ming but he wasn't chastised for his disgusting mimicking of an Chinese dialect, but if the shoe had been on the other foot CNN, FOX, etc would have been inundated with black people demanding an apology.

Some people say it's just jokes and no one should be offended. I on the other hand feel that race, religion, etc should never be brought into jokes. I really don't understand why it's funny to bash on a specific group of people.

Well I'm black and i don't like it when people make fun of or say jokes about black people but i don't think its fare when black people do the same and make jokes about white people. I think people should cut it out about jokes of peoples race, and get other jokes that doesn't involve peoples race.

I know it hurts my feelings and makes me sick to my stomach to see them put white people down. Not all white people are racist, it seems to be acceptable behavior amongst some blacks. I'm part Am. Indian, haven't heard them make fun of that part of me, but it hurts they mock "me". And they're making fun of themselves too because many many American blacks are part white. They should just chill out. There's a lot of funny things to talk about that don't have to hurt.
