I would certainly get the Dell XPS fully tricked out. MacBook Pro? Pssh.

The Dell XPS M 1710 is the Best-in-class gaming performance; top-shelf processor and graphics engine; attractive illuminated case; solid multimedia features; full assortment of ports and connections.

You can view the notebook at this link. http://reviews.cnet.com/Dell_XPS_M1710/4505-3121_7-31789682.html?tag=tpr

Watch the video and tell me what you think.

You're looking for a Toshiba notebook. They have high quality notebooks like the Satellite, Qosimo, and Tecra. I have a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092 with 1GB of memory and Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 SP2. It can handle Windows Vista Ultimate, but I'm not going to upgrade because Vista has too many problems. So, if you're looking for a laptop, choose a Toshiba, and you will be glad that you did!

I won't throw out any names, but I suggest looking for a computer with 2.0 Gb of processor speed and 2 Gigabytes of RAM. This is more than enough for what the average person does in terms of computers.

Video editing and photo editing requires a dedicated video card, but you did not mention anything along those lines.

It really depends on what you want to _do_ with it.

But if you want to get the top of the line... you can do Anything with this laptop... try this one:

ASUS Lamborghini VX2-AK007G Intel Core 2 Duo T7400(2.16GHz) 15.4" Wide SXGA+ 2GB 160GB DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce Go 7700 NoteBook - Retail

If I wanted portability (though not ultra-portable) with excellent specs without breaking the bank I'd go for:
ASUS A8 Series A8Jm-H019H Intel Core Duo T2400(1.83GHz) 14" Wide XGA 1GB 100GB DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 NoteBook - Retail

The latest PC magazine voted IBM T60 as power giant. I know our ol' IBM has been a sturdy workhorse, and if I ever have to get another laptop it'll be an IBM. (I also have an HP.)

Well then, you just need to look for the most expensive laptop you can find. That is usually the best you can get.
