The cold war is over, now one who disagrees is not also called a Godless, atheistic communist unpatriotic betrayer.

I don't say things like that. But I know people who do, and in both parties, for seemingly opposite reasons.
So how do we balance it? Observe the polls. Not what they say, but what they do.
Polls use statistics to determine what law has tried for years to determine: "The Reasonable Person Standard"
If we were to ratify an amendment ordering the congress to put every bill before a "jury-congress" (below), and to defer power to them to accept or reject the bill, item by item, we'd have much more "reasonable" bills.
Jury Congress -
- a group of people (say 300 to 500),
- selected at random from each congressional district (yes, that's 500 X 425),
- granted the right and responsibility of reviewing abbreviated arguments on each point of a bill,
- tested to show normal understanding of that bill, its contents and rationale behind the arguments,
- and required to vote their conscience, erring on the side of fairness and long-term goodwill and stability of their district and the United States overall
Jury-Senate (same as above but 2 random groups per state)
A Jury-Executor would be nice, too. But I'd prefer that the president's veto power would be null against a vote of more than 70% of both Jury-Legis'

I agree! I wore an anti-Guantanamo T-shirt to protest the messed up situation there, and a woman had the gall to come up to me and ask me if I remembered 9-11, and that what I was doing was un-American. Since when is putting people in jail indefinitely going on 5 years now with no trials, no way to prove their innocence, and tortures such as sleep deprivation, etc?
When did that kind of treatment become 'American'?
I love my country, but those kind of Americans don't deserve the freedoms they have! They are truly the betrayers.

This is true, which is why the Democrats are trying to open dialog with " The Enemy " instead of ignoring them and making war on them...Time will tell, in about 19 months!!

both parties are this way.
If dems dont like what you say they violate your freedom of speech by trying to silence you.
Both parties are filled with scumbags. Just the dems are more obvious about their hypocrisy
