I just read around on the internet and it says it's not safe to dye my hair when I'm pregnant. I was about 8 or 9 weeks when I dyed my hair at the Beauty Salon and I went in for a Dr.s Check-up at 11 weeks and everything was fine but now I'm worried can this hair dye chemical still affect my baby now or in the future?? Answers PLEASE!

I actually asked my doc and a hairstylest for their input. Both told me that it is not recommended, but it is not as harmful as it once was. Back in the day the chemicals were so strong it could interfer with the early development of the baby, as for now of days the chemicals are not as strong therefore it is less likely to harm the baby. Reasons it is not recommended is some women can not tolerate the strong smell of the chemicals used causing nausea and vomitting. Also harmones are out of wack and can alter the chemical reaction, ex. a perm may not come out leaving the hair how it was to start with or trying to dye it a certain color yet it may come out a completely different color.

Hope that helps.... congrats on the baby!

Don't worry, you're baby is fine. A lot of women dye their hair while pregnant and nothing harmful happens. There are a lot of things on the internet which are blown out of proportion and easily scare pregnant women. I remember when I was pregnant, I was so scared to even take a sip of coke, eat chocolate, etc. It's rediculous. Smoking on the other hand...

There really isn't anything to worry about. The minimal amount of dye getting into your bloodstream may not even make it to the fetus. It used to be advised against getting your hair dyed while pregnant, but studies have discounted those warnings. Just make sure the area is well ventilated as the fumes can make you ill. Best of luck.

NO WORRIES!!! your baby is just fine, there is absolutley no reseach saying that the dye can come in contact with the fetus. It is perfectly safe to dye your hair while pregnant. (Try not to use amonia products though). They do say not to go dye crazy and dye your hair often but it is ok on occasion. SOme people are overly safe and do not agree with it. It is ok to be beautiful while you are pregnant. Like i said don't worry your baby will be perfect!!!! CONGRATS!!!!

You cannot chage the things that you did not know. Its probably just fine :). This happens to ALOT of people. Dont worry about it, your baby is perfectly healthy, you will find that out :). doing it one time isnt the end of the world. some people smoke, drink, drugs, hair dye, all the way through pregnancies. Keep that in mind :) it takes alot to actually cause harm to your baby

no ma'm im pretty sure it can not thats just old fashion talk... the same thing with painting a room you just want to make sure you have a good flow of air in the room like some open windows you just dont want to get high off the fumes is all. There are a lot of sayings like that but i dyed my hair all the time when i was pregnant and my little one is perfect!

I haven't met a pregnant hairstylist that ever stopped coloring her hair. The old dyes used to contain lead, color nowadays is safe and doesn't contain anything that will harm your baby. BUT, certain colors and bleaches can irritate your scalp and may not give desired results (blondes may not lighten enough and may end up very brassy) and of course make sure you are in a well ventilated room when you do color your hair.

Don't worry all is fine...There was only a really big NO in dying your hair when all the formulas used to contain ammonia, now most do with out...But you should let your roots grow out about 1-2 inches before re-dying your hair since your hair grows faster it will make maintenance shorter..

I've never seen any definitive proof that hair dying causes birth defects, and lots of women dye their hair while pregnant. Personally, I've always thought that the fumes were probably the worst part.

I think that you and the baby will be perfectly fine.

Don't worry, the baby will be fine. It isn't really good to dye your hair when your pregnant, but I think any damage would be to your hair and not to the baby.
