Well I think this applies for any fish in the aquarium not just tropical fish. What happens is the fish begin to recognize their owner so when you get close to the fish tank they start getting all excited thinking its feeding time. I used to have a 10 gallon by my bed and while I was doing my homework I would just happen to glance at my fish tank only to see my three goldfish in the nearest corner to me pretty much begging for food. I also found out that they recognized me as the guy that feeds them because when ever I walked into the room they came to quick attention and swam to the front of the tank waiting for food.

Fish do certainly have a memory. the priority approximately 5 seconds is tosh. they have found out that once you recommendations-set, they get nutrients. I did this test with my very own tropical fish; positioned a extensive piece of blue A4 paper at one end of the tank. on the different end, positioned a purple piece. For 14 days, feed them on the purple end. day after on the instant, change the colorings over, and feed for 14 days on the purple end lower back. Now replace them lower back. once you recommendations-set, they are going to bypass to the purple end, it is now the different end of the tank. Fish are not stupid!

They do have a memory, though it is very short, and they also see you as their food source. My Guppies do this. Fish have a short memory, so they can't remember when they last ate, therefore, they're always begging for more food. Don't give in to it every time, or it will cause problems, such as obesity, and pollution to the water.

Not only your fish but all the creatures have this ability. That is by every day experience. It is a daily need and routine.

I would say it is more something like instinct or that they know that at an spefic time of the day normally they get their food.

It is like dogs who knows at what time more or less their owner is coming back from work and they sit next to the door waiting.
