What is it that you HONESTLY believe liberals believe in?

I'm not looking for snarky, partisan bullcrap here. I'm looking for sincere, rational, well-explained responses only. (I will report the others; I don't care if you're a liberal or a conservative, if you're nasty, abusive or sarcastic, I'm reporting you.)

Truthsayer: Are you seriously suggesting that conservatives don't try to force their ideals on others? So what you supposedly hate about liberals is something your own party does.

In the least amount of words, liberals believe in a level playing field, equal opportunity for success, and the right of each individual not to be shackled with poverty and debt.
I think the issues that drives the biggest wedge between liberals and conservatives is the welfare system.
Conservatives and liberals alike have no problem with social programs that are designed to help raise families out of poverty. The problem is a program that supports people who live in poverty and creates a permanent welfare class.
The fact is, there will always be a number of people who will always live in poverty in the USA. We must accept that notion. For those people, paying them a welfare check is cheaper than building a prison system to house them, as they will turn to crime rather than work to get what they want.
I believe, this is my own notion, that liberalism is the equal distribution of opportunity, which will lead to the equal distribution of wealth through each person's own toil, not government redistribution of wealth.
Although I am a pragmatic conservative, I see a problem with conservatives attention to the health of business more so than the health of the individual. Events like Enron and predatory subprime lenders clearly indicate that the individual in this country is not protected in the free market environment.
Wage laws were enacted to level the playing field. But, somewhere along the line Americans have been convinced that big business has seen Jesus, somehow or other, and will only act in the people's best interest. Every single government control placed on big business from labor laws to environmental controls are in danger of being eliminated because big business is Christian and loves Jesus. WTF!
Sigh!
I don't know how liberals can overcome the current tide. As a political party, the Democratic party has been moving liberalism in the wrong direction. I hope they come out of the woods soon or the robber barons will control everything.

Actually, there's a difference between the Religious Right & the Libertarian Right. Jesus was a fairly liberal fellow, not unduly fond of the rich and such. Christianity would be far more evenly divided between Right & Left if the left wing socialists had not embraced Karl Marx's notion that Religion is evil. Most Christians sense the Left has it in for them & so side with the Right, which is happy to have the votes. This is more a matter of politics making strange bedfellows than inconsistant rationality.

I like to think that I'm rational...most of the time. So I'm gonna answer.

A Liberal:

Supports individual rights thus pro-choice and pro-gay marriage and etc

Believes in providing support from the government thus welfare, housing, medical care and etc

Supports the idea of big government

Believe in social equality

Are environmentalists

Without going into the positives and negatives of each of these, I simply will say that I choose to remain an ultra conservative Republican (as I've been called) :o)

I believe liberals believe:

1) That our constitution is open to interpretation depending on circumstance or historical reference.
2) That government has the right and obligation to regulate the operation of business and the actions of consumers.
3) That the best tax system is one similar to the one we have, a progressive income tax.
4) That profits earned by companies are the property of the government to reallocate (Hillary Clinton said in regards to the Exxon profits, "I want to take those profits and use them for national health plans".
5) That the only time a nation should use military force is if the national boundaries of the nation are breached by an aggressor and only against the individuals that breach our borders.
6) That the government has the right to define eminent domain in a manner not specified in the constitution resulting in loss of personal property by government condemnation for the purpose of selling it to another to develop differently thus increasing tax bases.
7) That education should be controlled by the federal government.
8) That speech should be free except when it offends someone else. Political correctness.
9) That the bigger the government is the better for the people.
10) That "the poor" deserve to be propped up by government reallocation of the wealth of the nation.

Thats a few, there are more that I just don't want to take the time to write down.

The net result is that the individual freedom and liberty of the average citizen is reduced.

Normally i'd be saying snarky remarks but if you honestly want to know what I think here it is:

I think liberals are not dumb and think they are doing the right thing, and fighting for the right cause. They rally for social programs to help the lesss fortunate, the poor, the uneducated, and theres nothing wrong with that. They rally for peace, and diplomacy which is something I think everyone in all cuontries wants at the end of the day.

My problem with liberals is their execution of these things they want so deerly. For example the war, we know no one likes war, republicans arent rubbin their hands together saying "im so glad people are dying" and collecting oil money. Even if Bush is somehow collecting free oil, the republicans of the united states are not and yet they still vote republican. But liberals believe that we can talk with our enemies or potential enemies, and with most we can. But sometimes someone like Sadam or Hitler, or Fidel Castro comes around and it just doesnt work.
We fight wars like the one today to try and stop problems in teh future, for example:

After WWII General Mccarthur said hey we won, but we should take out Russia while theyr weak, they will be a problem in the near future. The president said no too many people will think we are warmongering and not understand..... Then it turned out to be true what MCcarthur said and thats what the coldwar was abbout with the soviet union.

Now there is a new regime which would like power and is willing to fight for it, the islamic one, and it has many faces. We need to handle this now so it is not faught later, that means maintaining stability in Iraq because it is a crucial stepping block int he middle east were Iran to strike us, or even worse, if we left Iran could take IRaq over andwe would be super screwed.

While "giving peace a chance" is what we all wants, and we also want freedom and liberty... The tree of liberty at times must be watered with the blood of its patriots. It sucks, but it is how it works, talking does not always work, just like with that bully in school. Sometimes.. you gotta busta a fu*king columbine and take em out for the beter good of everyone.

Liberals believe in making the world a better place.

They just fail to realize or to care that "better" is subjective, that the "world" comprises 6.5 billion people each of whom is endeavoring to make his own 1/2 acre fit his own definition of "better," and that to remake the world, the country or most of either into your definition of "better" means to override the choices of most of those people.

What makes the Liberal a Liberal, and what we hate about Liberals, is not that they have ideals, it's that they don't have any problem imposing those ideals on the rest of us, who may or may not share them. It's not that you care so much about the beggar on the street, it's that you don't see that forcibly taking other people's money to give to the beggar is tyranny and goes against every principle upon which this country was founded. It's that you don't see that either the government can and cannot do this - that if they can do this for one purpose they can do it for all, once the machinery is in place its use is determined by whoever takes the reins.

It's that after all these years in which tens of millions of people have been murdered by socialist governments you still seem to think you can have the socialism without the brutality, one ideal for all but not through brutal subjugation of those who do not share the ideal.

It's that you don't see how socialism benefits the few at the expense of the many - the very notion of having an ideal for the whole group necessitates that, it necessitates overriding everyone else's ideal.

And it's that you don't see how the free market benefits the many, and is true democracy. In the free market the allocation of resources is ultimately determined by CONSUMERS, not producers - producers don't make what they think we ought to have, they make that for which we're willing to pay enough that after the cost of production they still make a profit. To the contrary, a communist government produces, and a socialist government causes to be produced, that which it thinks the consumers SHOULD want.

Well, like us, Im sure they just want to make America a better place. However, liberal stances include pro-choice, pro-gay marriage and sometimes even the degradation of Christianity in America. But not all Dems believe this since liberal and Democrat are two separate things. Liberals prefer a tight economic system but a loose moral system. I disagree with their moral system, but sometimes, liberal economics may be what we need. This economic system isnt really fair, but sometimes necessary, like welfare for example and a slight increase in min wage (I say slight because a big increase would produce a larger unemployment rate).

First of all. .sarcasm isn't a violation !!!
And the fact that you promised to violate anybody who is sarcastic is definitely on my list of what Liberals really believe in . This isn't about feelings and neither is Politics . So there's at least one thing that you can't deny, because you just did it .

Partisanship is not a violation either. .. .So mark that as #2 that you can't deny, because you just did it !!

I did something different yesterday . I asked what Liberals thought of Rosie O'Donnell . I didn't threaten them though and I do not file abuse reports !! Mark that as #3 that you cannot deny, because you just did it !!

The responses to the 'Rosie' question were quite revealing and I've been reeling ever since . I thought, silly me, but I thought that Rational Liberals would condemn and distance themselves from Rosie . A few did . Most did not !! In fact, most supported her based on 'Free Speech', but I did not ask that, I asked 'what liberals thought about her and her comments . So, Not answering the posted question is the Predominant Liberal response . Mark that as #4 and you can't deny that either, because it's easily traceable in my profile !!

I believe that there's only a handful of rational liberals amongst a plethora of insane left-wing Dangerous Liberals .
I believe that the Liberals have become so hell-bent on hatred that most are incapable of rational thought anymore . Proof ? Again, check my profile and the Q and A . Another proof would be that RARELY do most of them answer the posted question .
Another proof is that even Psychologists agree that HATRED BLOCKS RATIONAL THOUGHT !!
I believe Liberals are afraid of Capital Letters , when I only use them to emphasize a point,. . . not as a replacement for yelling. . .. .now we're right back to the 'feelings' thing again .

I could type for hours about my recent disgust with many Liberals . But I don't like it when other users clog-up the answer forum, so I'll defer to the rest of my colleagues !!

BTW. . . one last note . A Liberal just asked for rational Republican views on Nancy Pelosi and the 'Republicans' that went to Syria, without authorization from the State Department. . . . .and guess what. . .. MANY Republicans condemned the Republicans for going . THAT, my friend , says it all !!!

EDIT* - I would love to see you post a 'Rational Response' attempting to refute anything I said . And don't worry about my feelings. . .I don't threaten to report people for something I disagree with . I choose to argue my point with facts and some opinions .

Liberals believe in true democracy. In not putting the needs of the few over the needs of the many.
Liberals believe in the Constitution as it is written, not as it has been 'interpreted' by some.
Liberals believe in looking out for each other. Hence the expression, 'bleedin heart liberal'.
On the other hand, conservatives seem to look out for theirselves.
It would be great to find a middle ground to pull America together. United internally, we would be a much stronger Nation.

I don't think you will get a Conservative/Republican response that is honest to the point of containing any truth. I truly believe that most Conservative/Republicans' view of Liberals is so slanted by people like Limbaugh that they have no idea what a true Liberal (non-Republican) is like.

I'll give you an example. Because of the state and town I live in is very "red". The vast majority of my friends are Conservative/Republican. When they aren't talking politics, I enjoy their company. When they do talk politics, I can't stand it. Most , or in fact all of them, are so uninformed that it is painful. Since I don't discuss politics with them (even though they don't hesitate to force it on me) they would be shock to know that I am not a Conservative/Republican. They simply assume I am because they are. They know how I feel about life in general and they accept me for that and for the most part agree with me. However If I let them know I was not a Conservative/Republican I am convinced that they would look at me differently from then on.
