what race are you?

of you that areof mixed race do you ge asked "what are you" and how does that make you feel? what do you say or do about it?

i am mixed native and white. I hate being asked to pick one. i belong to neither. white people think i look white i should just "be" white. then there are those who apply the one drop rule and if you have a drop of anything else you are not white. From the native side you are as indian as you look. i look more white so they assume i am white and life must have been a picnic for me becuase i looked white. That is certainly not true. my kids have the same parents but tribal members claim one of my kids is indian becuase he is dark complected and his brotehr is white becuase he is pale. but they have the same biology. i hate when people tell me to pick one box and if you do not they automatically choose white no matter what. I am mixed and belong to neither race. To show you the stupidity of people regarding race when i had one of my babies when they handed him to me i commented on how light he was. i expected him to be more darker native looking. The nurse asked me if the father was supposed to be black. To some people mixed only means black and white. there are a zillion other mixes out there!

I am not of a mixed race but I get asked this all the time because I have black hair and green eyes, I tell them I am North Indian, I don't feel embarrassed because I am proud of my heritage

I get annoyed most of the time and tell them that I am "mixed." One time this guy said "with what?" I told him White/Latino and Afro-Caribbean. He then asked where my parents were from, I left because that would take all day. People that know me know what I am "mixed" with.

If you want to answer truthfully, do it. If someone has attitude toward you about it, the best reaction honestly is to laugh and then ignore them. You don't owe them anything. What difference does it make? Usually when people ask they want to pay you a compliment because you look exotic.

I am mixed with Black and Chinese. People often ask me what I am. I just tell them I am from Trinidad. It bothers me sometimes when I am asked what I am because it shouldn't really matter. We are all human.

People call me white
but I know who my great great great grandfather slept with..
I also know where my mother was born
and where my father was born
We are from every corner of the earth..
and so again, I am of the human race first

Klingon and Vulcan mixed and it does bother me when people ask about it. I say something logical about it half the time and the other half I attack in a belligerent frenzy. It works for me!
