The single 512 will give you better performance than double 256 sticks (though not noticeably), UNLESS you have dual channel memory, in which case go with the 2x 256 (by the way, why so small, shouldn't you be more concerned over 2x 1GB sticks or one 2GB stick?)

It will be a nano seconds less performance with the two 256x2 rams than the single 512 mb ram .

The clock speed of the ram is unknown so cant say for sure , but should be the same, the single 512 however should allow you room to expand even more when you can afford too. Find out how much ram your system is capable of and max it out. Money well spent.

There won't be any difference that you can notice as long as the sticks are compatible with your machine. A single 512 would be a little faster than two slightly mismatched 256 sticks, but again, in everyday practical use, there won't be any noticeable difference.

Ok, ignore what some of these people are saying. It is quite possible to run a game that requires 512 but it will run sluggish. It will not run at its full potential, try upgrading to 512,1GB. Most games now and days require 512+

I believe it does not matter just longs if you have 2 same brands under 256mb they would both read just fine, or 512 is good also

It won't make any difference in speed whether you have 2 sticks of 256M or 1 stick of 512M.

(The 2 sticks of 256M have to be the same kind of memory though -- I assume you have the same kind for both 256M sticks.)
