I am asking how to not be a poser. I usually wear things you could find Smart Set , style wise: just a step down from khaki and collared shirts. I'm heading out with a guy friend I'm getting pretty close to and he accepts me the way I am, but is Goth himself and wants to do my make-up a little darker and edgier tonight. What could I wear to put this look together without looking like a poser or out of my element?

To one of the answerers: I'm trying to go out and have some fun, just shake things up, but I don't want to look completely trashy, which is why I'm asking for some advice.

just add a few touches u wouldn`t normally try, like makeup-wise, maybe wing your eyeliner out to the side, past the end of your eyes, or maybe using a "smoky" eye look with darker eyeshadow colors...as for the clothing, maybe u could add some black in your outfit, nothing to the extreme, just add accents to what u would already wear, like perhaps an "edgier" scarf & bag, or some funky jewelry...if your guy already likes u, then i`m sure whatever u choose will be ok for him...just be yourself & enjoy experimenting with a bit of a different style!!! have fun!!!

um. Start there. Wear whatever the hell you want.. don't ask other people what you should wear.
You could try A LITTLE black eyeliner and some red lipstick depending on your skintone, hair colour etc. Just do it nicely, blend the liner properly and all. The whole bleeding eyeliner tears look kinda cheesy. So I wouldn't go for that but it's up to you.

like you said, you don't want to go overboard and since it sounds like you are pretty clean cut..I would go for a cute black shirt or even a girl band tee if you have one its not necassarily goth but its a little grunge maybe punk and it will put a little edge on prep..for some reason I am picturing you wearing white sneakers or dressy shoes regularly...try combat boots or skater shoes if you have them. go for a darker denim pair of jeans....and make up well you dont want to go all out with white make up and black lipstick but you can try brown/gray eye shadow but use the eye shadow applicator to put sum powder foundation on after the eye shadow just a little to kind of blen it in and it won't look so dark. black eyeliner under the eye on eyelid and top of eyelid. ( before you put on eyeshadow) black mascara...I wouldnt do lipstick but just chapstick or lip gloss will do the job. try it and see how it looks..leave yourself enough time so if it doesn't look good you can wash your face and start over.

Black and red seem to be popular goth colours. Check a Cure album cover or liner notes for some inspiration.
