I'd hope he'd agree to your request and have police waiting for you when you arrive.
How utterly unconscionable.
That's blackmail!

You're a thief if you don't return the wallet intact, and an extortionist for demanding a reward. You might as well stick up this guy with a gun.
Why are you entitled to a reward? Because of a random chance of finding the wallet and making a phone call - come on, how much is your time worth?
If you keep the wallet and money, it will come back to haunt you - everything you buy with this money will turn to bad luck. Go ahead and try.

Quite simply, that is wrong and so unfair. For many people that is a lot of money and to demand a reward...do you have a conscience at all??? I HIGHLY doubt it. People should give rewards if they can afford it, and ONLY if they choose to do so. They should NOT give a reward when it's demanded (as you intend) and you should not hold on to the wallet if the owner balks at the demand. I honestly feel sorry for you.

If you are really interested in having your reward, just take the 20% out of the reward and drop the wallet off at a police station. They will contact the person. But know that is illegal. It is also illegal to demand a reward for the wallet. So if you want to be legal about it, take it to the police station and forget about it.

Why should you get a reward for finding it. It would be different if you had helped stop someone from stealing it. As you state now you are trying to extort money by holding it for ransom or by telling him he wont get it back if doesnt give you what you want. And if you keep it then you are stealing it, because you know it does not belong to you. Just call and return it and take whatever he offers.

That's really bad Karma. Just because you found the wallet doesn't mean you're entitled to any compensation. I would just give it back. What if the table was turned and somebody found your wallet? Wouldn't you want it returned to you? Just give it back and maybe the person will give you something.

Hand the wallet back with the cash as someone has probably worked hard for that money and you dont deserve a penny.

Go to the library and check out "Blackmail for Dummies"
It will provide step by step instructions and a handy table of penalties listed by state.

Don't do that. That is extortion, in my honest (and non professional) opinion. Just take $100 or the whole $500 and drop the wallet at a police station or mail it to the guy.
