Lets say that I have to make a history website and it has to be interesting. Is there anything I can do to it to make it more appealing?

Use clipart somewhere related to your topic, maybe Flash (if you know Flash).
You could have a timeline of events and hyperlinks.
I'd use some kind of chart to help organize it before posting anything on the web.

One way, certainly, is your writing style! Don't let it be dry and monotonous as most of my high school history texts were! Maybe even, throw in a little humor, if you can! Let it be terse, or easy to read: make short paragraphs, with separation (like, say, whitespace!)

Another way is, make it visually appealing. Vary the fonts, where appropriate. Diddle with background colors. Maybe even, throw in a few background *images* here and there.

Throw in a few small graphics (but, don't overdo it so that the webpage is slow to load!)

Make sure your page is updated now and then, so folks will be interested in returning.

Make pages small, with links to other pages, containing subsets of topics.

If there are pictures involved, can you rotate images like the AOL and Yahoo homepage does? Each picture should touch on a historic event for the subject you are making the website about.
