Because we feel like we have cheated death somehow. I was in a coma for 4 1/2 days, it wasn't my time yet. I'm still afraid of dying but our bodies all die at some point and we can't avoid it. I have accepted that. People who have come close to death also have a sense of perspective, we accept that it's going to happen.

The biggest fear of dying is what we don't know what to expect. Just like when you try anything for the first time, you're don't know what to expect, and that can cause some anxiety and fear. Once you have done what ever it is, you know what to expect and you no longer have fear, because it is no longer unknown to you. Like flying on an airplane for the first time, or driving for the first time. With death, it's inevitable, and we are taught that killing is wrong and wanting to die is wrong, and obviously that death is finite. But being able to have gone through the experience, or a reasonable simuation, you don't have to be afraid of it any more. And with death, and knowing that it's finite, you may realize that you really want to make the most of your time on earth, and teach yourself ways to live your life better so as not to go before it's really your time. Sometimes people have said that they feel now that when it is their time, it will be peaceful and they will feel joy beyond anything they have ever experienced or imagined before. Others get those same feelings from dropping acid, but that's a different subject. When you're not scared, you can do anything you set your mind to. And sometimes it's the kick in the *** we need to remind us to not take life for granted.

It was beautiful.. A pastel tinted glow of warm light. Warm, not bright. Very inviting. There was a musical bar with a key at the front and there were geometrical shapes instead of notes. They were all dancing and the music they made was not heard through my senses as i know them. It was pulling me towards the light.
I had the hump with 'God' for a long time afterwards for letting the ambulance crew wake me up and have me return to the reality that my physical body was in. I was 18. I'm 42 now and just about getting over it.
I don't fear dying. I have learnt that the human body is a vessel. For something so much greater than us that we can not even begin to comprehend it. Whomever can accept that will one day overcome their fear of dying i believe. My purpose of life is to keep my Spirit intact for the rest of it's 'journey'. I want to die with a twinkle in my eye and will choose euthanasia when the time comes. My body can only take so much, and my ego doesn't mind the surrender.

My wife had a near death experience in hospital. Her heart stopped after an epidural. She told me she felt really good whilst being drawn down what appeared to be a tunnel with a bright light at the end. She felt sad when she was brought back by shock treatment now she doesn't fear death but still wants to enjoy her life.

Because when these "near-death" experience people are interviewed, they have found that most describe the experience as a peaceful, calm experience. They might also be comforted to know that there is something beyond this life. They might also realize that life is precious and short. Don't be afraid and don't take it for granted.
I don't mean to be a downer but you cannot be entiredly sure that these people are truly experiencing NDE. There are other theories about NDE that have to do with chemicals/drugs interacting with parts of the brain that might cause these NDE or illusions to occur.
I guess it is up to you to decide if you believe these people and their accounts or if you take a more scientifc approach.
