Is it possible that an 18 year old could be as wise a person 20 years older? Of course its possible! How likely is it, well who knows the actual odds. Coming from a person who is considered to be very wise I will tell you that as wise as I was when I was 18, I am infinitely the wiser now, and 10 years from now that wisdom shall double. Intelligence is something that your born with, the ability to solve problems and figure things out using your thoughts and logic skills. However wisdom is something that comes through experience and age, even if one has been through a lot, usually he will need time to reflect on these experiences before he figures out the truth behind it all.
This is why you can not teach someone wisdom, it is acquired through a process called life, you may be wiser than some people who are 20 years older, but is that really a compliment to you or an insult to them? You will have to use your wisdom to decide!

It is not likely. Wisdom requires experience. An 18 year old might have some of the same knowledge as someone else who is thirty-eight, if the older person hasn't been engaged in the intellectual life very actively. Someone who is 18 may well have a better understanding of mathematics than someone who is 38. However, in other areas of There is a certain practical wisdom which comes with age. Nevertheless, merely being older does not necessarily mean being wiser. A grown man who is vicious and lacks good judgment will not make wise choices. An 18 year old man may have better habits. However, this is not wisdom per se.
It depends on what you mean by wisdom....merely making prudent choices or rather truely understanding what the ultimate good is and what the first causes are such that one is able to order things to the good. If it is the latter, I would say it is very very very unlikely that an 18 year old has true wisdom. If you mean the former, that an 18 year old might make more prudent choices or have a deeper understanding of a less experiential science--i.e. mathematics--then I would say it is possible. However, it would all depend on the individuals in question.

In some ways, yes. It depends on what you have experienced versus someone 20 years older. If you have seen and been through a lot as a person, whereas the person 20 years older has lived a rather sheltered life, than there's a good chance you've acquired more wisdom than they. There are some bits of wisdom/experience that only comes from years, though, and that can often mean recognizing what someone who is younger is going through at that age (for example, the identity crisis of the early 20s, someone who is 40 would recognize, remember, and understand better than the person going through it). I am friends with people more than 20 years my senior, and they would all say that they can still learn a lot from me as well as I from them.

Possible, but not probable, because the older guy has had on-the-job training for twenty years. An 18 year-old is merely a babe in the woods cmpared to a 38-year-old.

Yes, it's possible. Not in experiences but in I.Q. like if my intelligence is compared to my grandfather is much higher. Because, the more a person grows, the more his capibility of remembering the past increases and remembering the present decreases.
If it comes to wisdom, then also it's possible. I know a teacher in my school who has taught for 23 years, still he remembers equation by heart and puts it on the board. So therefore, that implies that what I grasped in a day, he could not grasp it in 23 years.

I would think so. People mature at different levels and think on totally different planes. It is possible that someone could learn a life lesson at 18 while some people never get to that point. However, I am sure that most 18 year olds consider themselves to have the same or greater intelligence than just about everyone.

I think they can be as intelligent as someone 20 years older, but I think wisdom comes more from life experiences

I would say no. You need to go through the trials and experiences of life to gain wisdom, and that takes years.

I believe so. The 18-yr-old may have been through more experiences than the 38-yr-old. Plus, some people learn from their trials and failures more easily than some. For example, if you lose your job b/c your work ethic is poor, some might immediately step it up a notch. But for others, they might lose their job 5 more times before they 'get it'. In this case, wisdom = learning, and some learn faster than others.
Good question!
