Are there any idiots who still believe we should have bombed them rather than using diplomatic means?

jamand - they released them as a result of the diplomatic pressure that was being applied. People like you would have done nothing more than get the sailors killed.

jamand - where did I say you would have bombed them - nowhere. You made the remark about people like me first . By the way, your not doing yourself any favours by resorting to personal abuse. Just showing your ignorance. If you can't defend you position without using that kind of language, you obviously have some growing up to do.

Well - it looks as if this question did what it was designed to do - exposed a few war mongering idiots (and I use the word "idiots” advisedly) who seem to believe that a hostage crisis can be solved by dropping bombs (or even using nuclear weapons). An idiotic premise, which even the most hard line militaristic governments would never consider as a solution to a situation of this kind.
If military action had turned out to be necessary, the only effective way that could have gotten the hostages out alive, would have been a surgical commando strike (like Entebe or the Iranian Embassy crisis). Thank goodness it didn’t come to that.
Anyway, there were quite a few good points made among the answers as well, so thanks to all who made them. Particularly dels replies, Elizabeth Howard, The First Dragon, Hallie and David.
jamand - I would have even have included your point in that if it hadn't been for your confrontational and abusive attitude, but you blew it.

To all those who did advocate bombing Iran, if my question annoyed and generally irritated you, then I very pleased to say that I have achieved my objective.

I'm sure the families of the sailors really don't care how they were released, just as long as they were.
To answer your question, no, I don't think we should have bombed them...I don't think anyone should bomb anyone; but unfortunately in this day and age, too many threats are being made from too many quarters and it may quite possibly become inevitable...which is a very scary thought considering the types of weapons out there. We are all too aware that a full scale all-out 3rd world war could be our last one, knowing the devastation some of those weapons could cause...it doesn't really bear thinking about does it? With that in mind, do we really have nothing better to do than sit here attacking each other?
"They talk about peace, it's a very strong word,
It's always been said but it's never been heard
Hi-tec weapons are here to reassure it (????)
But I've never seen a time
when they've done a s*** for it" (Clawfinger)
I mean our governments, not our armed forces, at the risk of sounding melodramatic, I think those guys and girls are very real saints, we sit here typing what we think on a computer keyboard, they deal with it first hand every single day...God bless them.

I think we're very lucky that all are safe and sound.
I'm very glad the Iranians finally saw sense- but to give Blair's complete and utter incompetence any measure of respectability would be intellectual deceit of the highest order.
The Iranians only gave in as they must have recieved what they demanded and Blair of course, atypically caved.
We now must ask whether they truly where invading Iranian territory and what concesions were given so that the soldiers could be released.
Let's see the wood for the trees- this was a total propaganda victory for Ahmenidijad and Iran and the UK once again looked like a total fool with Blair at the helm.

It seems the threat was enough. The Iranians may have finally realized that their act of piracy in Iraqi waters was not going to be taken lightly. And it appears the the president was having an accident in his pants because the Ayatollahs decided he had gone too far.
It wasn't diplomacy. There were two reasons. One, Iran suddenly realized what they had done and the possible consequences, they could be bombed into slag. Two, The Ayatollahs are angry with the political leaders because they are just causing more problems for Iran.

No There have been many correspondents on Answers in the last week or so advocating aggression and violence in response to the seizure of the sailors. Some sensible people replied that this course of action would be senseless as it would achieve nothing but to inflame an already delicate situation and imperil the sailors.Thankfully commonsense and diplomacy have prevailed.Iran have made their point and given us and the USA a warning to watch what we do in the Middle East area. They are trying to emphasise that they are not to be trifled with.

The nature of the provocation - kidnapping unoffending sailors and claiming they were a little over the boundary line, - made it obvious this was a diplomatic crisis, and military action would not be appropriate.
Yet.
Unfortunately, the time will come.
This is Iran's behaviour without nukes. Guess how they will act when they get some.

We handled it something like the beginning of "Dads Army". Do you remember at the start there was a map of Europe with a Union Jack Flag baiting the Germans across the English Channel.

You sound a bit Niave.
They would only released them under great pressure. That would be the very real threat of being bombed.
They didnt do it out of the goodness of there hearts. They are not good otherwise they would be assisting the royal navy in trying to starve the terrorists of weapons, not hindering them.
They are not home yet so we still might get the childish fools trying to milk it for a bit more propganda. Unfortunately it seems even the most base, childish bulls**t affects some people.
Grow up. These people will nuke us if we let them.

It is only a matter of time. Iran is starting trouble in the region and it will be a matter of time before they get their clocks cleaned for picking on the wrong mfkas....ie; Israel or the U.S.
It will happen, can't you see it.

And you think they released them out of the kindness of their hearts do you - they released them as a propaganda mission to ally themselves to the Western world in the hope that they could make their nuclear programme more acceptable to the UN and be seen as 'friendly'.
Load of old twaddle and people like you make it easy for them
Hey! SpaceMonkey - where does it say I would have bombed them - thus getting the sailors killed - NOWHERE a sshole - You asked a question and you got an answer that doesn't fit with your conception of a correct answer - they did not release the sailors for any other reason than personal gain in their fight to put off sanctions due to their nuclear build up - IF they ever attack another nation with a nuclear bomb - what are you going to say then - Oh! Well and scratch your a ss. Numbnut

They haven't released them yet.....
""Iranian state television said the 14 men and one woman, who were seized while on patrol in the northern Persian gulf on March 23, would leave Iran on Thursday. An Iranian official in London said they would be handed over to British diplomats in Tehran."""
