I was in baby names recently and there is alot of animosity towards what people are naming their children. Now don't get me wrong, people can name their children whatever they like. It's the parents choice, right?
Well there are some who are worried that if a child has a unique name, basically something new, whether its just spelled different or totally new, that the child will have to endure painful teasing going through school. Now kids are already teased at school for whatever reason kids can come up with. We all went through it at some point, I am sure. I pose this to everyone. Mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, friends, and to the teens here, what is your opion on this topic.
This really spiked my curiosity. I would like to hear some feedback.
My children have unusual names and they are not teased for it. They are even spelled different.

Names be an excuse for a child to be teased, but they really aren't the real reason.
If a child is social, well liked and popular, he won't get teased. No matter what his name.
I bet we all know or knew kids growing up who were really popular but had the funniest names.
It's because their personality shined through.
I mean, come on, if worse comes to worse, the kid will give himself a nickname.
Names aren't supposed to define who we are. WE define who we are. If our names are Cornelius or Tom, our personality will not change.

The point is you shouldn't hand the other kids a solid gold reason to single your child out!
My daughter has a close friend, her name is "Queenie" Now, this was just adorable in kindergarten. She is 14 now and gets tormented everytime it is spoken aloud. Her answer? "It's not my fault my mother is an a-hole" OK? Her self esteem is a mess. She is beautiful, intelligent, etc. All of that mush about over coming, standing out, being an individual, is totally lost on her. Her darling mother thinks she can name her child anything she wants. Well, isn't that special? She's selfish, thoughtless, and cruel.I seriously want to slap her mother hard enough to make her head bounce off something solid.
Imagine when she grows up? She will NEVER be taken seriously, get the good jobs, or the promotions. That is reality.
Parents should save their individuality for themselves.
Give your kid a real name, and save the cutesy individual crap for a nickname...IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU!!!!!!

kids rarely tease other kids for having weird names these days so i personally dont see the big deal.. and the parents that ask for helping naming their unborn children, well, they already have a name that they like most and even though everyone likes on name. the parents will more than likely pick the name they like most anyways so whats the point of getting an opinion.. they shouldnt care what people think and name their child what sounds nice to them..

I think if kids get teased at school its all about how the parent responds to it. Sometimes it can make you a stronger person. Some parents name there children odd names because it has a meaning which they can explain to the kids the meaning which will help alot.

All part of growing up. Even children with common names get teased. I knew a family where the daughters were named Windy, Stormy, and Rainey. People teased em, but in a fun way where they really never got offended.

Remember when you are naming your child make sure it is a name they can live with.Names can have an impact on how people perceive you.I know this is wrong but what image do you get in your mind. Five females females equal in every way except for their names . Their names are Breezy Dawn,Summer, Ayaan (pronounced Ann), Siobhan ( pronounced Shivan) and Ellen, who would you hire? These are all real names of children that my daughters knew growing up.

I think kids do get teased for names. My daughters last name is Hoewing. Her aunts were teased for the last name when they were in school and I am not looking forward to her going to school someday. There are some cruel people out there.

Think about Oprah and Condaleeza - who would want a name like that - but they are very successful. The most important thing is that the parent creates a respect and importance of the name and then conveys that to the child.

I chose my daugthers name because i liked it and it fit her. Her name is Kinley. I also choose it because of my grandfather she was named after him. I believe every parent should look at the name before picking it for their child, whats it mean you stuff like that. Kids who pick on other kids because of their name is childish and immature.
