Most of the time when people are cremated they are put in what is called an Urn rather than putting the ashes of the deceased in a coffin. Coffins are large and expensive and are rarely used for cremation since coffins are used to lay the body in and the ashes would only take up a small portion of the coffin. A lot of people but the ashes in an Urn (like a vase or jar) and put them in their home or scatter the ashes where they feel it is appropriate. When a person is cremated, are they left in the coffin? If not what happens to the coffin?

yes

once a coffin is placed on the catafol it becomes the property off the crematorium.. they do not have a licence to store bodys so all bodys and coffins and what ever else may have been placed in the coffin like photos etc are cremaited that day..

once in the furnace only one coffin/body at a time it takes about 1.5 hours to cremate the ashes fall to the bottom and is scraped out ( they miss the corners )

the ashes are cooled and go into a cremulator ( like a washer/dryer ) inside is 3 granite balls which crush and fine the large knuckle bones etc into a grey powdery ash / dust this is collected at the bottom and then placed into a urn

for piece of mind no bodys are touched no jewlery is removed the coffin is not opened... they only check that the coffin plate matches there paperwork and all is then cremated....

interior the U. S., the place I take place to stay, The ornate coffin we are attentive to isn't positioned into the crematorium. If there's a viewing/visitation frequently the coffin is borrowed. interior the united kingdom it sort of feels there is yet another decision to "borrowing". there are activities the place the deceased or the kin of the deceased have opted for utilising a cardboard coffin wherein their kin member would be cremated. while this occurs families each and every so often desire to have a greater aesthetically appealing coffin or field on the catafalque throughout the provider. families for this reason will flow with the two a pall (a cloth protecting the cardboard coffin), or a 'cocoon coffin' (an outer shell that covers the cardboard coffin) or will beautify a cardboard coffin themselves. Neither the pall nor the cocoon is cremated. it is needed understand that the pall and cocoon do no longer comprise the physique of the deceased; they are merely superficial coverings for a cardboard coffin. in case you have been to place a wood coffin in a crematorium, the handles could flow with and you're able to get a huge glob of molten what ever the cloth. It follows then that if a steel coffin have been used, you're able to get an exceptionally enormous glob. The physique on my own takes up relating to the dimensions of a shoe container. desire this enables

Asked this question at the undertakers. They assured me the coffin was burnt. When you collect the urn with ashes in to place in a remembrance site or to scatter they will be from the wood of the coffin and the actual body cremated. Since submitting this I have read some of the other answers given. It would appear that there is an awful lot of difference between the UK and the USA in this respect. In UK I have never heard of rented coffins.Cremation is now the most accepted method in the UK of dealing with the deceased. This is largely to do with the lack of space for burial cemeteries.Memorials in gardens of remembrance by crematoria take up much less land. Also the talk of urns. Obviously ashes from the deceased can be placed in an urn after incineration but the body has to be contained in something else previously. As I said previously my local undertaker(mortician)assured me that the coffin selected by the next of kin would still enclose the body in the furnace and would be incinerated at the same time.He stressed the point as some people felt that undertakers sold coffins for £300 to £400 and then eeclaimed them at the crematorium and then resold them to another person. He assured me that this does not happen. The other thing that caught my eye was that in the USA cremation was considered as being of a lower class of dealing with the dead than of a conventional burial and internment.I don't think in the UK it is considered inferior or 2nd class at all. Many people put in their will that they would prefer to be cremated. I know I have.Just leave you with my thoughts.

Before cremation, the body is taken out of the coffin and transferred to a box made of hard carton. It is the one the gets burned with the body, Human ashes and carton box ashes are then separated since it is easy to distinguish the difference. Most coffins used for the dead to be cremated are refurbished and then rented out again. Do not worry, no dead body would get contaminated because the linings inside are always taken out and burned and replaced with new ones.

Actually the coffin was only a rental. The deceased is put on a rack. Kind of reminds you have a big cookie sheet. They are then rolled into the oven and the cremation will take place. When they are done sometimes there is joints, knuckles that did not cremate. These are then disposed of. And the ashes are then put in a box or urn. Hope this answered your question.

From my understanding there is no coffin involved. People get cremated either based on religious beliefs or lack of money. If you lack money you probably wouldn't want to buy an expensive coffin. You would buy an urn to place the remains in or if you don't want to do that you can scatter them somewhere.

Usually when some one is cremated they are not placed in a coffin, but rather in an urn.

They are left in the coffin and cremated together. At least that's how they do it in this part of the UK.
